Belle's POV
This couldn't be happening. I had been told that the others- the medical personnel who were there that day- had been transferred to another branch. I had believed it. If I had known, I would have protested against it. There was no point punishing people for a crime they did not commit.
"We fired them, Belle," she hissed, her voice filled with contempt. "All of them. And we made sure they signed agreements to stay silent. They'll never say a word to anyone about what happened. So don't think for one second that you can just walk away from this."
My legs felt like they were about to give out as the full weight of her words settled over me. This was it. This was the truth I had been running from, the reality I had been trying so hard to avoid. And now, there was no escaping it.
