Chapter 35

Damn it, what am I thinking? I squeezed my eyes shut, the weight of the moment pressing down on me. The hum of the car engine blended with the rhythm of my breathing. Slowly, I opened them, syncing my focus with the gentle movement of the vehicle. His voice broke the stillness, low and deliberate, slicing through the haze of my thoughts.

"You should know being by my side means you're always in danger," he said flatly, his gaze fixed on the road ahead, as if delivering an undeniable truth.

I stayed silent. There was no need to respond to something so obvious. Rolling down the window, I allowed the crisp wind to tangle with my hair, its coolness against my face offering some semblance of clarity. Danger? That word had never frightened me—it had been my companion since birth, an old friend etched into every corner of my existence.
