Chapter 90 - Between Good & Evil V

The doctor sounded so calm that it was eerie and scary. Even Dudley felt weirded out, but he maintained calm as their chief. He wasn't used to seeing blood. Heck, he'd never seen too much blood. But he was ready today. He had to get used to it for the sake of his future.

"I'll proceed with severing the arm holding the Dark Mark." The doctor, like a crazed man, made his assistant wave the wand and remove all of the upper clothes that Lucius was wearing, except for the sack on his head. Then he tied a tight, rubber tube above his bicep. After that, he used a special saw.

Grrrr~

"AAAAARGH! NO! Noooo! Please! Gaaaaaah—!"

Lucius roared in pain. It was a blood-curdling scream. No anesthesia was used. They had no reason to. Every single man and woman walking in the Vanguard base hated Lucius. They didn't know him, but because Dudley hated him, they also hated him. They hated all proud, pretentious purebloods.

"Nooooooo! Stooop—!"

The doctor didn't stop. He completely severed Lucius' arm and rushed towards the pig with it. There was already a stitched incision on the pig's back. The Doctor quickly opened the stitches and began fixing Lucius' arm there.

Dudley watched the white floor become blood-soaked. He watched Lucius writhe in extreme agony. But his bleeding had already stopped where the arm was cut, using magic.

"IT'S WORKING!" The doctor roared. "IT'S HAPPENING!"

Interested, Dudley got closer to the half-awake pig. He looked at Lucius' arm on its back. The doctor made his assistant tap the arm with his wand and a faint trace of the Dark Mark appeared there.

For a while, the Doctor kept making his assistant tap his wand, and soon enough, a visible Dark Mark completely formed on that transplanted arm.

"Fascinating," Dudley murmured. "I'm impressed, Doctor Adolf."

Yes, the doctor was German. Yes, his first name was Adolf. Yes, it was uncanny, but the man was a squib, forced out of his wizard family, and orphaned in childhood. He became an underground doctor and remained obsessed with magic. Hence, Dudley had him now.

"Cheers to you, Mr. X! Your provisions have been the catalyst for my breakthroughs. Studying the Dark Mark has been a boon. Seeing how potent it is despite the distance, I believe we can build global communication spells using the same ideas."

That would be… revolutionary.

Dudley took that suggestion seriously and made a note to do it later.

"Let's finish the experiment now, Doctor."

"Of course." Doctor Adolf nodded at his assistant, who swung the wand and instantly killed the pig.

Shhhh~

The entire arm on the pig's back started withering away like a dead flower. The spot where the Dark Mark was, now started to rot.

Doctor Adolf was with Lucious, however, constantly checking for any spots where the mark may have returned. He found none of them. He even made his assistant induce pain in Lucius, but no Dark Mark appeared. They used every method known, and finally, the report was completed.

"The Dark Mark is gone, Sir."

We'll need a lot of pigs soon.

"See if you can remove that Dark Mark without damaging the arm. We'd like to reattach it to the wizard, if possible," Dudley ordered him and finally focused on the wizard. "Also, sever all the fingers on Lucius's other hand, and remove his tongue. Ensure he has no means left to perform magic."

"N-Noo… Who are you?"

Lucius was crying like a child by then.

Doctor Adolf moved quickly and chopped all fingers. Then, using pliers, he pulled Lucius' tongue out and sliced it off as well. A sort of potion was used to quickly stop the bleeding.

Finally, Dudley let out a long sigh. "Give him water regularly, but only feed him every three days. I want him alive and aware, that's all. I couldn't care less about how he looks, so long as he's conscious and responsive. And as for his hair—get rid of it, make him bald. But do it later. I'll have a private chat with him now."

"As you wish, Mr. X" Happy with his experiment, Doctor Adolf packed his items and left with his assistant. Soon, the two Vanguards guarding the place also left, closing the door behind them.

Dudley finally took off his mask. The Vanguards already knew his face, but he still maintained the mask to blend in.

"Lucius Malfoy…" He grabbed the sack on Lucius' face and pulled it off. "Did you miss me?"

After moments of adjusting his eyes, Lucius looked at Dudley's face. He froze for a moment, then he looked at his severed arm, then his fingerless hand.

"Ooooh!"

Lucius tried to speak, curse, shout. Threaten, most likely. But without a tongue, it was like blowing warm air with random sounds.

"Aaaaah… Mmmm!"

Dudley stood there, smiling warmly the entire time, as if enjoying Lucius' misery. He waited patiently for Lucius to lose his breath and stop making noises.

"I didn't want this, Lucius. All I dreamt of in this life was to make money, finish school, and enjoy life. That was it—I had no ambitions, no grand intentions. I just wanted to live happily." Dudley walked around Lucius' chair. "I thought I'd figured it out. Keep myself out of the mess, and the mess would never find me. How naive I was."

"A bet! A fucking bet!"

Dudley raised his voice, showing anger that erupted rarely like that. He grabbed Lucius' face, glaring at him. "Your damn son made a bet and lost. And you killed Vernon for that—for a bloody bet! That's when I saw it, plain as day—people like you will never let someone like me be. The higher I rise, the more you'll try to drag me down. And now we've arrived at this moment. Thank you, Lucius. Truly. You woke me up."

The more Dudley spoke, the more Lucius' eyes lost their radiance. Dudley noticed that. He saw hopelessness settling in.

"You know what your real mistake was, Lucius? No one ever knocked some bloody sense into you. Not once. But I won't just give you a slap—you'll wish it was that simple. You'll be around long enough to watch everything you care about crumble—your precious Malfoy name, that smug little bloodline of yours. I like that look in your eyes. Fear suits you. I sound like the villain, yeah? Don't like it either—but here we are."

Lucius gulped and opened his mouth, but no words came. True fear slowly settled in. The Dark Mark was gone. Nobody knew who took him. Nobody cared.

Dudley took out a newspaper from his coat and unrolled it. He showed the front page, a massive, moving image of that evening. The Dark Lord was in the middle, his face and the faces of other Death Eaters also visible.

"Let's not pretend. No one out there gives a shit where you've run off to. If anything, they'll think you ran away because you got exposed as a Death Eater." Dudley put away the newspaper and then took out a mirror the size of his palm.

"Are those tears? No, not regret. Just rage, I suppose. But don't worry, I'll be merciful to your family. Especially to your wife… Ah, I sound like a villain again. But you see, I can't help it—I truly, deeply, with every cell in my being, hate you. Right down to the marrow."

Looking into the mirror, Dudley smiled wickedly and glanced at Lucius again.

"I wonder what Narcissa will do to protect her son now. She lost it all, after all. All the money you deposited is now the property of D&D Bank. Coin, land, manor—all of it. Should've paid attention to the fine print, but I suppose that's beneath the great Lord Malfoy, the man with shampoo commercial hair—Wanna see her? Narcissa?"

Dudley turned the mirror towards Lucius' eyes, and there it was. The magical mirror showed the interior of Gringotts Bank. There sat Narcissa Malfoy in her modest, yet beautiful attire, her hair tied in a bun, her face devoid of that cold but proud elegance. Her eyes were full of worry, her posture unsure, yet the allure remained.

"That's got to sting. One day she's living large, the next her husband disappears, and so does all the Malfoy family wealth. I wonder if she thinks you ran away and took it all."

"Mmmm! Hoooo!"

"Nice try." Dudley pocketed the magical mirror and stood straight, stepping backward towards the door. "Don't worry, I sympathize with her plenty. She's still among the most beautiful women in Britain, despite her age. I'll take good care of her, and I'll keep you updated. Might even let you watch some action—and listen to her… moans."

"Aaaaaaah! Moooooh! Hoo-hoooo…"

THUD!

Unable to shout or do anything, tied, Lucius fell along with the chair. But he still kept writhing, wheezing sounds. At last, his eyes held some tears, real ones now.

Creak!

Dudley opened the door and walked out. He felt different, scared of himself for a moment. His plans for Narcissa were just what he'd told Lucius, but not that malevolent. He'd still, maybe one day, give her a chance to get her decent life back after he's done torturing Lucius.

Yet, he said all those vicious things.

He tried to remind himself of a string of letters again and again that was once a massive company's tagline in his last life. That company removed it once it got too big. He didn't want to.

Don't become evil. Don't become evil. Don't become evil.

He walked towards the stairs to head up. The whole time he gave himself a therapy lesson.

"I am normal... A good, kind guy... I am Dudley. That Wall Street lunatic is dead... I'm just, sweet Dudley…"
