Little Kitten

Leah gazed at a certain man's eyes , that were swirling with emotions that she couldn't describe, his dark gaze was filled with hope, love and a promise of forever but was she ready for love. As she was thinking of how to escape from this situation, there was a vibration from his breast pocket but he chose to ignore it and continued staring at her, he was waiting for his answer but she didn't want to.

Leah was not ready for love, was feeling uncomfortable by the fact that everything is going so fast and she was not ready for that, so many things has happened between them that there is this huge hole in their relationship that can't be ignored, so she kept quiet.

It's been a long time since he asked the question but she hasn't answered him and he was getting impatient, he knew that she was reluctant to answer that question that's why she hasn't said anything but he wants that answer, it's an insurance that there is something between them, there was an awkward silence between them each drowned in their thoughts, Lucian sighed and looked at the little girl in front of him and was about to say something , when a ringtone cut through the silence , it was Leah's phone,

Leah sent an apologetic look to Lucian before taking her phone from her purse, she glanced at the name that was on display, with an annoyed expression and a cold look in her eyes different from how it was when she was with Lucian she answered,

"Hello"

"Leah, are you free tonight?, I called your company and they said that you left work early, where did you go?", a male voice spoke in a warm tone, his name was Brian, he's in his mid-twenties. Her parents adopted him when he was a little boy, his parents was a good friend of Alessandro, her father, so after their untimely death, Alessandro took in their only child,Brian, but he didn't live with them.

He lived with Alessandro's father in California, before he came of age and started living with them. Leah never liked Brian, she sees him as nothing, something that is not worth her time. But unfortunately, Alessandro wants her to get engaged to Brian but Luna, her mother strongly disagreed, saying,

"Your daughter is still healing from what happened years ago and you are trying to match make her with someone she barely even know. She is taking care of your deceased niece's daughter, since her parents considered her a shame, you are not going to impose your decision on my daughter "

"If she wants to marry him, I will give my blessings but she doesn't want to, so what gives you the right to force them to get engaged when am not dead yet".

Alessandro understood what his wife meant, that unless she is dead Leah will not marry Brian, and the topic was dropped. No one mentioned that engagement after her mother's dissatisfaction with it.

"I came to see Roxanne with Anna, she was shot in the back and just woke up" leah explained trying to restrain the coldness in her tone.

"Why did you go there by yourself, you should have....."

"I am not alone Anna is with me and I can take care of myself, so stop trying to boss me around!" Leah snapped.

"I am just worried about you and Anna, after all she sees me as a father figure and i don't want to get her hurt like you" Brain said in a worried tone.

"You crazy b*astard, what do you mean by father figure, the only man in this world that Anna treat as her father figure is Lucian, I know that you are aware but you are just dumb to analyse it"

The emotion that was swirling in her exploded when Brian started calling himself as a father figure, like who does he think he is. Before Brian could explain himself, Leah cut the call.

Lucian watched in amusement as the little lady puffed her cheeks in anger, and was cursing under her breath, he could not resist the temptation, Leah was still angry and was cursing Bruan in her thoughts, when she suddenly felt a hand grab her cheek and pulled it. Shocked she raised her head and looked at Lucian with a confused expression.

After pulling her puffy cheeks, he laughed at her silly expression and said,

" Being angry doesn't look good on you, try smiling more"

Leah gazed at Lucian with a soft look on her face, the smile on Lucian face was bright and he seemed to glow in the night, it was as if the stars was shining in that smile but to Leah, that smile was infectious, as she too started smiling.

The atmosphere between them was warm as they walked back to the hospital room. When they entered, what greeted their sight was two sisters cuddling each other in the small bed.

They tip toed to the bedside, Leah dropped the fruit bag she was with on the counter next to the bed, then with a smile on her face, she kissed their foreheads and adjusted the blanket on them. She stepped back and looked at Lucian, the smile was gone replaced with a cordial look on her face, as if the woman who was smiling with him under the stars was not her.

"I leave Anna in your care, tomorrow is the weekend, so there is no need to worry about school, I will have my assistant send thr list of things that Anna likes and dislikes " Leah whispered.

"When are you picking her"

"I have a business meeting to attend abroad and am leaving in about forty minutes,so maybe in the next two to three days"

"Okay, take care of yourself, remember to eat your food on time", Lucian said with a teasing smile on his face.

"You too"

Leah said with gritted teeth, she was actually planning to skip lunch and dinner so that she would be able to come back early to take Anna away but it looks like her plan will not work, damned man, she cursed.

She grabbed her car keys and food flask and walked towards the door, then stopped, she returned to take off the cloak that he had out in her before leaving. Lucian chuckled as gazed at the cloak that was lying neatly on the sofa, he sat down beside it and took a whiff he smelled her unique scent that was incomparable to any scents in the world.
