Kol's POV
It seems the battles for the day are finished.
Who would have thought that Elena—this girl—had vampire blood in her? The only one reckless enough to make such a decision without her consent would be Damon.
Sigh. That man is becoming an itch I can't scratch.
As she woke up, groaning, she blinked, taking in the sight of Bonnie, Stefan, and Damon—her supposed friends.
And then, in that shrill, irritating voice—
"Damon!"
She actually ran towards him.
What the hell?
Two girls had just gone through absolute hell—Bonnie and Caroline—both of whom had nearly died and were barely holding themselves together. And yet, here Elena was, disregarding them completely, as if their suffering was inconsequential, making a beeline straight for her lover—the same man she was cheating on with his own brother.
I let out a dark chuckle, leaning toward Rebekah with amusement.
"What do you think our villagers would do to a harlot like that?" I asked in a mocking tone.
Rebekah smirked. "Tie her to a tree and stone her."
I nodded in approval. "And the cheated brother would commit kinslaying for such betrayal."
Truly, this was the most absurd love triangle I'd ever seen in my very long life. Men suffering over a woman who played with their affections like a game? It was laughable.
Even in that other world, where I had witnessed similar foolishness, I could never understand it. If it was just sex, there were plenty of women in the modern world who would indulge without strings attached. If it was emotional connection, then why waste it on someone so utterly undeserving?
I had seen women with harems—true powerhouses. They knew which men to subdue, which to avoid, and they played court politics like masterful serpents. They had status, strength, and cunning.
But this?
This was just pathetic.
"Anyway, let's just kill them and be done with it," I sighed, signaling Rebekah.
Caroline, who was still recovering, turned towards us, her eyes pleading.
The pain in them was obvious, yet she still begged for mercy.
I met her gaze, unaffected. She wasn't particularly important to me, and if she ended up with Nik—which, from the looks of it, was highly probable—I would simply interact with her less. It wasn't my problem if she hated me.
Seeing my indifference, she turned away from me and directed her silent plea toward Rebekah and Klaus instead.
Why do these kinds of people always have such loyal followers?
It was irritating.
Klaus stepped forward, throwing me a warning look before signaling me to leave with the Bennett witch.
I exhaled in irritation. "You know, Nik, this will be the last time I show mercy on these three—for you, for Rebekah."
Then, hesitantly, I added, "And for Caroline. But next time? If I find them in my way, I will eradicate them. If there's a spell cast against me, I will shatter it. And I'll still do it."
Klaus' eyes darkened to amber, the wolf in him rising, his hackles raised at my challenge.
I arched a brow at him.
He sighed. "Fine."
I turned to Rebekah.
"No worries, Kol. This is just… for a friend. Even Caroline will understand."
I scoffed but didn't argue.
Klaus moved toward Caroline, lifting her into his arms with surprising gentleness.
I let out a low whistle.
"My, my," I mused. "Maybe I should start crafting rings and spells for the wedding."
With a smirk, I flashed away with Bonnie, leaving Nik and Caroline locked in their silent exchange.
Caroline's POV
The moment Alaric had grabbed me, something in me snapped.
The panic. The sheer helplessness of it.
I wasn't that girl anymore. I refused to be that girl anymore.
But my body still remembered the fear.
The way he had overpowered me, the way his hands had closed around my wrists like steel, the sharp burn of vervain against my skin.
My mind screamed at me to fight, but my body was frozen in terror, just like it had been the first time.
Damon.
That name had haunted me for so long.
His touch. His voice. His control.
And then suddenly, it wasn't Damon. It was Alaric. And I was that scared, weak girl all over again.
I barely remembered what happened next. The pain. The struggle. The burning.
Then, darkness.
And now—
Now, I was awake.
The room was spinning. My body ached. But the second I opened my eyes, I saw her.
Elena.
I struggled to push myself up, my limbs weak. My vision was still hazy, but I saw Stefan. I saw Bonnie. And I saw him.
Damon.
And Elena—she ran straight into his arms, sobbing his name.
Not Bonnie. Not me.
Damon.
My stomach twisted in disgust.
I wasn't expecting her to run to me, but Bonnie? Bonnie had died saving her. Bonnie was the reason she was still breathing.
But, of course, none of that mattered. Because in Elena's world, only her pain mattered.
I sat there, breathing hard, my hands curling into fists.
Kol's voice cut through the air, mocking.
"What do you think our villagers would do to a harlot like that?"
Rebekah's smirk was cruel. "Tie her to a tree and stone her."
I should have been shocked. I should have been angry. But all I felt was… nothing.
Because, for the first time, I saw Elena Gilbert for what she truly was.
I looked at Kol and Rebekah. Their words were harsh, but they weren't wrong.
And when Kol finally muttered, "Let's just kill them and be done with it," something in me tensed.
I should have defended her.
I should have spoken up.
But the words wouldn't come.
Instead, I turned to Klaus. Not for protection. Not for reassurance.
For confirmation.
And Klaus—who always had a weakness for me—stepped forward, stopping Kol with a glance.
"Not tonight, brother."
Kol looked at me then, eyes sharp and unreadable. I could feel his disappointment.
You still care.
But did I?
I wasn't sure anymore.
All I knew was this:
I wasn't running aymore
I wont be that weak little girl.
Not this time.
Not ever again.
