The training courtyard was silent. A cool breeze swept across the stone floor, rustling Kaelan's dark hair as he stood motionless, his sharp crimson eyes locked onto Yevan.

The sun was beginning to set, casting long shadows over the yard, but Kaelan barely noticed. His entire focus was on the man standing in front of him.

Yevan looked as relaxed as ever, his golden eyes half lidded, his posture casual. He didn't even look like he was preparing to fight—his hands were tucked behind his back, his body upright yet loose.

He wasn't tense, he wasn't even bracing himself.

But Kaelan knew better.

This was the stance of someone dangerous. Someone so experienced, so skilled, that they didn't even need to act tough. Because they were tough.
