The man was none other than the brother of the original Ivy—Roland. Ivy's gaze darted away, nervous.
This was the brother of Ivy. Would he easily recognize that she was not his sister but just another person inside her body? Ivy's heart raced quickly.
"Sister, what are you doing here? Why are you crying?" Roland leaned down, squatting next to her, his hand rubbing her shoulder.
His little sister—he had not seen her for days, and it felt sad for him to see her in tears the very first time they met again.
Although he had been hearing negative news about his sister, those news did not concern him. She was still his sister, his little bunny sister.
Ivy smiled. "Ha, I'm fine... Everything is alright. How could I possibly be lying to you?" she said, moving her hand to hold his.
She was really putting in effort, trying to act just like the perfect sister to him. It was really hard for her, acting like the original Ivy!
She prayed in her heart not to mess up and cause a problem, such as him discovering her secret.
"Okay, sister, I believe you..." Roland sighed and said, his eyes staring at Ivy almost as if he believed what she said.
He only understood that his sister was feeling sad and did not want to share what was making her feel that way at the moment.
Everybody has their own private space. It was understandable that his little sister had matured enough and didn't want to share things anymore.
He couldn't lie, though—he was a little sad in his heart. His sister had grown so big!!
Roland took a seat beside Ivy, and Ivy adjusted for him. Against him, she smiled politely, though her smile was full of awkwardness.
"How are you doing? You haven't come to see us since you got married," Roland began, trying to make conversation.
He asked the question to confirm if she was okay. Although he knew that his sister was already an adult, he could not stop himself from trying to get the gossip out of her.
Ivy could admit that Roland's presence had calmed her down a little because now she was not feeling sadness but anxiety instead.
"Ah... It is because I'm too busy with my husband. That's why I couldn't come," Ivy said, looking down and fidgeting with her hands like a lovely wife who was so in love with her husband.
In her heart, Ivy was screaming. Was she doing it right? Was she acting well enough? She hoped she hadn't been caught. In the dark, where was the system when she needed it the most?
Roland chuckled, nodding his head. "You two really love each other very much, right?" he said in a believing tone, adjusting the bow tie on his neck.
Ivy laughed, continuing with the act.
"Yes, we do... Very, very much," she said. Her voice was soft and sweet, though she was pinching the base of her palm where Roland could not see.
She was enjoying the conversation so far with him, and the panic she had been feeling began vanishing.
Her acting skills seemed to have improved, and she became very immersed in the role.
"Then it's good that your head has been cleared. You were busy chasing after the crown prince who has deflowered a hundred women in the kingdom," Roland, becoming very comfortable, started talking.
The conversation shifted towards the prince and the original Ivy's scandal—no, the scandal that Ivy made all by herself.
"Watch your mouth. Don't say too much... The walls have ears," Ivy said, covering her brother's mouth with her hand. Her eyes scanned the corners of the hall.
The original owner's brother needed to be careful.
What if the crown prince or any other person in the castle overheard that conversation?
They could get into big trouble, especially her family members, whose status was lower than the duke's.
Ivy smiled, then asked, "What brought you here, little bro?" She raised her brow at him, curious to know.
"I'm looking for the love of my life," Roland said with a blush on his cheeks, his eyes looking down at his pants. His sister was his secret, the reason he had come to the castle.
"You mean Damien?" Ivy asked the question as the picture came to her mind.
She remembered this passage in the book that mentioned Ivy Everhart brother being in love with a man.
As for their romance, she did not focus on it very much; she was just interested in reading the clashes between the villain and the protagonist.
Roland's eyes widened. "Ha, sister, how do you know?" His finger pointed at her, expressing his shock.
This was a secret he had told no one, but his little sister just guessed it like that. His little sister was very sharp. Was she secretly keeping tabs on him because she loved him too much?
"Why won't I know? After all, I'm your sister. Come on, go look for him," Ivy's heart skipped a beat as she spoke, trying to push the matter aside, not wanting Roland to question further why and how she knew that his lover was a man.
Roland dusted off his shirt.
"Don't say a word to Father... You can only tell Mother if you want to snitch on me," he said, turning to Ivy before leaving.
His eyes were fixed on her like he was threatening her. However, with his bunny ears poking out, Ivy didn't find him threatening at all!
"Okay, I promise and cross my heart," Ivy nodded, hiding the smile in her heart. The original Ivy's brother was cute, she thought to herself.
"Bye, sis," Roland said, waving at her one last time before walking away.
"Ha, just like that, I'm abandoned in such a large place all by myself."
Ivy sighed on her own after Roland had walked away. Wanting to have a change of location, she wandered somewhere else deep inside the palace where she shouldn't have ventured into.
She found herself in a quiet, furnished background. It was outdoors, not indoors, but it looked lovely, like a place someone would like to sleep in.
"Ha, greetings, princess... Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt," Ivy said with panic, kneeling down to show her apologies.
She had not expected to find a princess here. Although, thank God, it was the princess she met and not the female lead, because the princess was not a problematic person.
The princess raised her brows. "Come, you are not interrupting me. Come sit with me," she said with a smile, gesturing toward the chair beside her so Ivy could take a seat.
"Okay, if you say so, princess," Ivy said hesitantly, thinking twice before answering. Then she slowly took a seat beside her.
When seated, the princess's gaze was fixed on her. Ivy gulped down her saliva, and then she heard the princess's voice.
"You are not Ivy," the princess said.
