" The Obvious Fact "

( in the afternoon, still at Siri's mother's hospital:;)

( Outside the hospital ):;

As Siri and her mom made their way through the crowd outside the hospital, people parted to let them pass. One onlooker whispered, "That girl always causes trouble." Another chimed in, "At least this is better than last time."

The hospital staff and patients cast sideways glances, their faces a mixture of curiosity and disdain. Siri's mom ignored them, her focus fixed on her daughter.

They entered the elevator, and Chan was with them. As they rode up, Chan attempted to lighten the mood, saying, "I told Siri she's so lucky to have a mom like you – she's always 'nursing' her back to health!"

Siri immediately grabbed Chan's arm, giving him a stern look. "Chan, that's enough."she wishers.

But Chan continued, trying to make Siri's mom laugh , he knew her mom likes his health related jokes so he said that hoping it would calm her down. Siri pulled his hand again, signaling him to stop.

When they arrived at Siri's mom's office, she turned to Chan and said, "That's enough, you can go now."

Chan looked at Siri, then back at her mom, and said, "Thank you... thank you, Siri. Let's go."

But Siri didn't move. Chan hesitated, unsure what to do next.

Mrs som repeated, "I meant you, Chan. You should go now."

Chan looked uncertain, then said, "Ah, Siri, I'll wait...I'll wait here for her."

Mrs Som immediately frowned, her expression stern. "If you want to wait for Siri, you can go wait outside – anywhere else, not here."

Chan nodded, though he looked reluctant to leave Siri behind. He cast a concerned glance at Siri before turning to exit the office.

As he stepped out, Siri's mom slammed the door shut behind him.

The moment the door closed, Mrs Som unleashed her fury, slapping Siri ten times. The loud smacks echoed through the office, making Chan flinch outside.

" Ahhhhh" chan sighs as she slowly makes his way away from the corridor....

Mrs Som angrily yelled, "Why do you always find ways to embarrass me?... Why does everybody have to know that you're such a disappointment?"

Throughout the verbal lashing, Siri stood frozen, her eyes fixed on the photo of her mom and younger brother, Yot. Her mom's insults and slaps didn't seem to register, as if she had disconnected from the world around her.

Siri's mom continued to berate her, but Siri's gaze remained fixed on the photo of her mom and younger brother, Yot. Her mom's insults and slaps didn't seem to shock her as if she was already used to it .

Mrs Som noticed her distraction and snapped, "What are you looking at?

.. That picture? You think that's more important than what I'm saying to you?"

Siri didn't respond, still transfixed by the photo. Her mom's anger boiled over, and she slapped Siri again.

"Whenever I'm talking to you, you'll pay attention!" her mom yelled.

Siri slowly raised her eyes, looking at her mom with a mix of sadness and fear.

"You'll look at me, not some stupid picture!" her mom continued, her voice dripping with venom.

Siri's eyes dropped, and she whispered, "I'm sorry, Mae..."

But her mom wasn't finished. "You're always spacing out, always distracted," she yells out annoyingly.

Siri's eyes welled up with tears as her mom's words was something usual, but it still cut deep into her heart everytime.

"Maybe I shouldn't have even told anyone you're my daughter," her mom said, her voice heavy with regret and disgust.

Siri's face crumpled, and she sobbed, "Mae, please..."

But her mom just shook her head in disgust. "Who wants a useless daughter like you, anyway? You know nothing but how to disappoint me!"...
