Haylie POV
As I sat outside on the porch, staring at the dark sky above, I slowly sipped from my hot cocoa. The warmth of the mug in my hands felt like a comforting blanket—exactly what I needed after such a long day. But I wasn't alone for long. I soon felt the quiet presence of someone nearby. Turning to see who it was, I found JC stepping out to join me, a mug of hot cocoa in his hands as well.
"The sky is more beautiful out here than it ever was back on Earth," JC remarked, his gaze fixed on the expanse above.
I took another sip of my cocoa, letting the heat ease my tired mind before replying, "It takes some getting used to."
For a moment, we both sat in silence, staring at the stars. Then I turned to him, curiosity tugging at me. "Why did you decide to stay?" I asked. We hadn't spoken much since I'd come back, and the gaps in his story were glaring. All I knew was that JC had been trespassing before everything changed.
