Chapter 145

KLinton POV

Haylie was stable and breathing again, but the revelation that she was pregnant made my blood boil. How did this happen? What had they done?

The doctor assured me she would recover but needed to be monitored to ensure both she and the unborn child remained stable. She would stay on oxygen to aid her lung recovery.

I opened the door to the hallway and found Liam sitting on the floor, his legs pulled up and his face buried in his arms. He was asleep.

Anger surged within me as I approached him. I needed answers—Haylie couldn't have gotten pregnant on her own. The dead weren't supposed to bear children, let alone mix with the living.

I tapped Liam on the shoulder. "Liam, wake up," I called, my tone sharper than intended.

He stirred, lifting his head to look at me, his bloodshot eyes and pale face revealing exhaustion.
