Her breath caught when a soft feminine voice resonated behind her:
???: "Well, isn't this our little mage?"
Bella spun immediately, her foot snapping out in a roundhouse kick toward the source of the voice. The hooded figure dodged effortlessly, a devilish smile forming under the shadow of the hood. Two glowing yellow eyes pierced through the darkness. Before Bella's foot could hit the ground, an invisible force violently threw her against the brick wall.
Bella: (grimacing) "Who are you? What do you want?"
The stranger chuckled softly, her tone mocking and icy.
???: "So many questions… But you, tell me this instead: which sign are you?"
Bella struggled to free herself, but an overwhelming pressure pinned her body against the wall.
Bella: (through clenched teeth) "I won't tell you anything!"
Suddenly, she channeled her power, unleashing a gust of wind that shattered the enemy's grip. Bella rolled to the side to evade an invisible attack and sprang to her feet, ready to fight back.
The stranger raised a hand, and an unseen force hurled trash cans and debris from the alley toward Bella. Bella reacted quickly, creating a circular wind barrier to deflect the projectiles.
Bella: "Hiding behind your tricks, are you? Fight me for real!"
???: (softly laughing) "You want a real fight? Very well."
The figure vanished suddenly, reappearing right in front of Bella in a flash. She attempted to strike Bella with a psychic blow, but Bella stepped back just in time, retaliating with a compressed ball of air.
The ball exploded, but the enemy dodged with inhuman speed, reappearing behind Bella to deliver a telepathic strike that sent her sprawling to the ground.
???: "Still so weak. Is this all you have to offer?"
Gasping for air but resolute, Bella got back to her feet. She stretched out her hands, summoning multiple sharp wind blades and hurling them in all directions. The enemy evaded the first few with agility, but one of the blades tore through her hood, revealing silver hair and a predatory smile.
???: "Ah... Finally, some boldness. But do you really think that's enough?"
The enemy extended her arms, and an invisible force wrapped around Bella, lifting her off the ground. A telepathic compression sphere formed around her, tightening the air around her body.
???: "Tell me your sign, and I might let you live."
Bella struggled, sweat dripping from her forehead. She felt her breath leaving her, but she focused, calling on her power. A burst of air erupted from her body, shattering the sphere and sending the enemy flying backward.
Bella: "I'm not that easy to break."
She leaped into the air, propelling herself with her powers, and created a compact whirlwind that she directed straight at her adversary. The ground trembled under the force of the attack.
Injured but still fighting, the enemy used her powers again. She hurled debris from the alley as projectiles in a frenzied attack on Bella. Bella countered with a circular wave of air, deflecting the objects.
The enemy vanished once more, reappearing right behind Bella to try immobilizing her telepathically.
???: "This is the end for you."
But Bella anticipated the attack. She focused her power into a punch amplified by an air shockwave, striking the enemy directly and slamming her into the wall.
The enemy, wounded and wavering, slowly got to her feet. A twisted smile spread across her face.
???: "Not bad, Bella. You're tougher than I expected. But this is only the beginning."
She disappeared in a flash, leaving Bella alone in the alley, exhausted and trembling.
Bella: (panting) "Who was she… and why did she want to know my sign?"
She leaned against the wall, staring into the darkness where the stranger had vanished, her heart still pounding wildly.
