Having secured the third shard from the Shadowed Forest, Aidan and Lyra pressed onward toward their next destination: the Lost City. Known only in myths, the city was said to have vanished beneath the earth centuries ago, hidden from the world and accessible only to those destined to find it.
"Aidan, we've been walking for three days," Lyra complained, glancing at the unchanging horizon. "Are you sure this place even exists?"
"The crystal is guiding us," Aidan replied, holding up the glowing shard hanging around his neck. "If we keep moving, we'll find it."
Their journey had been grueling—through rocky mountains, endless deserts, and now into a mist-filled valley. The cold air clung to them, and exhaustion began to take its toll.

A Maze of Fog
The valley was eerily quiet, the only sound being the faint rustling of wind. The dense fog obscured their view, reducing their visibility to only a few feet.
"This feels like a trap," Lyra said cautiously.
"Everywhere we've been is a trap," Aidan replied, stepping carefully over uneven ground. "But we're still alive."
Suddenly, the crystal around Aidan's neck began to glow brighter, pulsating with energy. Shadows emerged from the fog—dark, moving figures circling them at an unnerving speed.
"What is that?" Lyra whispered, drawing her dagger, her eyes darting around.
The shadows came into focus—creatures resembling wolves, but with glowing red eyes and unnaturally sharp fangs.
"We're surrounded," Lyra muttered, gripping her weapon tightly.
Aidan unsheathed his sword, taking a defensive stance. "Watch my back."
The creatures attacked in unison, lunging from all directions. Aidan swung his sword to fend off the first wave, while Lyra skillfully stabbed at those that got too close.
For every beast they struck down, more seemed to materialize from the mist.
"We can't keep this up!" Lyra shouted, her voice tinged with desperation.
Aidan glanced at the crystal, now glowing like a small sun. Without hesitation, he lifted it high, and a burst of light exploded from the shard, driving the creatures back into the shadows.
As the fog dissipated, a massive stone door revealed itself ahead of them, carved with intricate ancient symbols—the same markings as those on the crystal.

The Entrance to the Lost City
They stood before the towering stone gate, its surface worn with age yet still exuding an aura of power.
"This is it," Aidan said softly, awe in his voice.
"How do we open it?" Lyra asked, scanning the carvings.
The crystal in Aidan's hand began to hum, vibrating with energy. He placed it into a circular indentation in the center of the door. As soon as the shard made contact, the door rumbled and slowly opened, revealing a stairway descending into darkness.
They exchanged a determined glance before stepping into the unknown.

The Forgotten City
At the bottom of the stairway, they were greeted by a breathtaking sight. The Lost City was a sprawling underground marvel, with ancient structures adorned in gemstones that shimmered in the light of their torches. A fountain in the center of the plaza still flowed with crystal-clear water, and golden statues of long-forgotten heroes stood tall, untouched by time.
"This is incredible," Lyra whispered, her eyes wide with wonder. "I can't believe this place actually exists."
"This isn't just a city," Aidan murmured, his instincts tingling. "It feels... alive. Almost as if it's waiting for something—or someone."
They cautiously made their way to the grand temple at the city's heart. Inside, floating above an ornate altar, was the fourth shard of the Crystal of Light, radiating a soft, inviting glow.
"That was easier than expected," Lyra said suspiciously.
"Too easy," Aidan replied, his grip tightening on his sword.
As he approached the shard, the ground began to tremble. From the shadows stepped a figure cloaked in black, his eyes glowing a venomous purple.
"You've come far," the figure rasped, his voice echoing ominously. "But your journey ends here."
"Who are you?" Aidan demanded, raising his sword defensively.
"I am the Keeper of Darkness," the figure sneered. "You will not claim this shard."
Before Aidan could react, the Keeper hurled a dark fireball toward them.

Battle in the Temple
Aidan and Lyra dodged the attack just in time. The Keeper unleashed a flurry of dark magic, forcing them to fight with everything they had. Aidan's sword clashed against the Keeper's staff, while Lyra darted around, looking for an opening to strike.
"He's too strong!" Lyra shouted, barely evading a surge of dark energy.
Aidan noticed that the crystal around his neck began glowing brighter each time the Keeper used his magic.
"The crystal absorbs darkness!" Aidan realized.
Using this newfound knowledge, he held the crystal high as the Keeper prepared another attack. The shard emitted a blinding light, engulfing the entire temple.
The Keeper let out an agonized scream as the light consumed him, and in an instant, he vanished, leaving the fourth shard behind.

The Fourth Shard
Aidan carefully took the shard, and it merged with the others in his possession. The combined crystal now glowed with unmatched brilliance, its warmth giving them renewed strength.
"You did it again," Lyra said, her voice filled with relief. "But we're not done, are we?"
"No," Aidan replied, determination in his eyes. "There are still two shards left, and the darkness is only growing stronger."
As they exited the temple, the Lost City began to rumble. The ground beneath them shook as the city slowly started to sink further into the earth, as if knowing its purpose had been fulfilled.
They made it out just in time, watching as the entrance sealed itself once more.
Above them, the night sky stretched endlessly, with stars twinkling faintly. But in the distance, the horizon remained dark, a reminder of the battles yet to come.
