A Day Away

Lyra's POV

I sat by the window, staring blankly at the moonlit horizon. My heart still felt heavy, weighed down by Kael's coldness and the uncertainty surrounding my wolf. The silence in my room was a balm, though fleeting, as it allowed me to momentarily forget the chaos of the outside world.

A soft knock at the door disrupted the stillness, and before I could answer, Kellan stepped inside. He moved with his usual ease, his presence commanding without being overbearing.

"Lyra," he said softly, closing the door behind him. "I was worried about you."

I turned to him, forcing a smile that felt more like a grimace. "I'm fine, Kellan."

He raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. "You've looked better."

I chuckled dryly, appreciating his attempt at humor but lacking the energy to respond in kind. He walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, close but not overstepping.
