As each day passed, Jina felt something about Jun Seo thicken. At first, it was just the actions after the photo incident – the quick gestures, then the moments when his eyes penetrated what was happening around him. But the more she interacted with Jun Seo, the more she felt that those things were not random. Jun Seo was like an unopened book, an unsolved puzzle that she wanted to find out.
Today, when they met at the library, Jina could no longer contain her curiosity. Jun Seo was sitting silently reading a book, his eyes focused on each line as if he was reading something extremely important. Jina glanced at the title of the book, and one word caught her attention: "Genetics and Hidden Secrets".
At this point, she decided that she could no longer stay silent. "Jun Seo, what are you reading about?" Jina asked, trying to keep her voice calm.
Jun Seo didn't raise his head, but his eyes glanced over, wary. "It's nothing important," he said softly.
Jina knew there was something wrong with that answer, but she didn't want to upset him, so she just sat down quietly next to him. But what she couldn't help but think about was the title of the book. She had never seen Jun Seo seem so interested in science books or complicated research. He always kept a cold exterior, but there was something about Jun Seo's attitude today that made her feel that something was wrong.
The whole afternoon passed, and Jun Seo still didn't open up about what he was thinking. And Jina, despite trying to restrain herself, couldn't help but observe the strange signs that Jun Seo unintentionally revealed.
As they walked home together after school, something happened that Jina couldn't help but notice. A car suddenly sped past, and as soon as it hit them, Jun Seo quickly pulled her out of the way, so she wouldn't be hit, but he didn't panic. He was calm, as if everything had been planned out.
Jina felt her heart beat faster. "Jun Seo… you… you could have predicted this?"
Jun Seo looked at her, his eyes deep, not surprised. "This isn't a prediction," he replied, his voice calm. "It's just a reflex."
"But you… you reacted so quickly, as if you knew it would happen." Jina couldn't hide the surprise in her voice.
Jun Seo was silent for a moment, then he sighed. "Maybe it's because I've been used to dealing with dangerous situations since I was little." He turned back to look at her, his eyes hard but not lacking in seriousness. "Don't worry about me."
Jina sighed softly, "So that's it. Don't tell me I've read too many stories and become obsessed?" But the strange feeling kept haunting her, as if everything around Jun Seo was different from what she imagined.
In the following days, Jina continued to stay by Jun Seo's side, but every time she looked at him, she felt an indelible distance. Although the two of them didn't talk much about his past, she began to realize that there was a big secret that Jun Seo was trying to hide, after the incident with the children's photo. She couldn't imagine what could make a person become like that - cold, reserved, and always ready to deal with situations that normal people couldn't notice.
One afternoon, while they were walking near a park, Jina suddenly saw Jun Seo stop in the middle of the road. He stood there, his eyes staring at a hidden corner, where a group of children were playing. Jina couldn't understand the change in Jun Seo's attitude at this moment. He didn't look at them, but at the far wall, as if there was something there that only he could see.
Jina asked, her voice soft but curious, "Jun Seo, what do you see?"
Jun Seo didn't turn to look at her, but his voice was still calm: "I was just thinking about the things I've experienced."
That sentence made Jina feel a vague anxiety. She didn't know what she was thinking, but she felt that Jun Seo wasn't the person she saw today. It seemed like there was some dark past that he was running away from, and that was what made him like that – cold, distant.
At this moment, Jina decided that she couldn't stay silent any longer. "Jun Seo, can you… tell me about your past?"
Jun Seo turned back, his eyes somewhat confused, as if he didn't want to open up. "I don't think I need to talk about it."
Jina didn't give up. "I want to know you better, Jun Seo. You are a special person, and I can't just stand by and not know anything about you."
Jun Seo looked at her, and after a long while, he spoke. "Sometimes, the things I know aren't things that others can understand. And my past… not everyone can bear to know it."
Jina felt a great surprise in her heart. Those words were not what she had thought. Jun Seo was talking about something much deeper.
