Chapter 28: Sneaking Out Of The Academy

Rose stared at the dragon, its eyes still locked on her, waiting for something.

"You understand me, don't you?" she whispered, her voice uncertain. The dragon tilted its head again, its eyes sparkling with an almost knowing look.

"Wow," Rose muttered, her heart racing. She gently picked the dragon up, still unsure why she did it. It felt right, instinctual.

Her hands were soft against its smooth, warm body as she cradled it in her arms.

For a moment, she just held it, both of them quiet, the only sound the dragon's soft breathing.

Rose's gaze flicked to the small dragon's wings, still too small to fly.

She knew it wasn't old enough for flight, but the way it looked at her... it felt like it was older than it seemed.

She remembered something Seraphina had done once—she had placed her hands on a creature's chest and focused, checking its spirit level.
