Overtime

"Novius! Send your lightning into my water!!"

Arcs of white lightning began to shatter the air with eardrum breaking sounds. Beforehand and wall of water was erected from both arms of Elijah that struggled to block the currents of wind and fire, and after the onslaught was finished, the water that continued to replenish itself by burning through mana was draped over the opponents like a massive twenty feet door falling off its hinges.

Muffled screams of pain came from the sounds within the water after Novius had let loose two arcs of lightning that converged into one before spreading within the water. Flashing lights, ripples of water, and silence were the exact chain of events before Alexia had thrown a group of wind currents to the side to block their right side from being third-partied.

What was just seen was an enigmatic and strategic display of not just power, but teamwork. The stands went wild after witnessing the display of teamwork, and the council members began talking about the combination of water and lightning. This was something they had never seen before partly due to the kingdom's lack of knowledge about the world, but also the blindness that comes with automatically viewing water mages as a support class.

'Twas the fate of a kingdom that hid within the veil of safety.

"Niko! It's time for you to shine!" Elijah yelled at Niko in a positive manner, who was standing close by waiting for an opening. The entire group took half a minute to catch up with Elijah, and since he saw what was about to happen, he stayed back with his eye on the opponents closing in on their right. This was the reason Alexia guarded their right said, all because of Niko's callout.

When the dust settled, the three opponents who had been unjustly rushed were on the ground begging for help.

However, with a few seconds of hesitation, a familiar seductress with long black hair and greenish-purple eyes was flown into the air by what looks like a powerful wind mage. "OVERTIME!"

The now unconscious children were grabbed by earth mages expertly and carefully lowered into the floor from underneath the stage. This made Elijah think where the spectators were, and thinking back to the very small gaps on the sides of the cylinder-like stage, it was likely hollow.

With only twenty percent of his mana left, there was not much he could do besides rely on pure skill and precision when using magic to ease his way to his targets. "We don't have any defense! So continue attacking them until they are finished!" While this was only partially true, Elijah suspected this group consisting of the four basic elements were going to use guerilla tactics to their advantage.

A stone wall was slowly shot up from the ground with a slight curve that would block any attacks from the side. The lightning of Novius was lured by the water running down the outside of the barrier which was only thought of with the viewing of the fight that had quickly been finished. Niko's explosive fireballs heavily damaged the stone wall but was quickly remedied while the earth mage was hiding like a duck behind it. Alexia's wind blades only made small dents in the wall and was just barely able to cut one of the opponents that rose from the wall at the worst time possible.

"We have to get in close! Create a wall of fire and air and push it forward while staying close behind it!"

The easiest way to counter an immortal wall that guarded its mortal occupants was to block the view of the wall while moving as close as possible.

"What the hell?" Elijah was dumbfounded by the sight before him. The stone wall had expanded and encased the squad of four before they were able to jump on them. If anything, I expected to run and create another one, but they decided to trap themselves.

A smile slowly expanded from Eliah's face. "Look out below you!!"

A large hole was seen slowly expanding in the ground behind them. The twenty seconds of silence allowed Elijah to deduce their creative plan. However, they are doomed where the momentum lies.

The group of four led by a creative earth mage was hoping for a strategic maneuver to play out instead of pure fire power, which they were lacking on. Instead, the moment the hole was a size that could be passed through, what came was a large amount of water that hit them like a boulder.

"KOBE!" Elijah lobbed a large ball of water the size of his chest into the hole with a jumping motion. While the precision was not a factor, his control over the ball of water allowed it to expertly land inside the hole with a devastating blow.

SHING!

From behind, a blade of wind that started off as one precise hit, slashed the back of Alexia causing her to drop to the ground in pain. When Elijah was looking down in the hole where only two of the squad members were, he turned around to see a small pool of blood coming from Alexia's back.

'Dammit! Did they trick me?!'

While Niko threw a few exploding fireballs, Elijah quickly moved towards the rest of his group while throwing a sizable amount of water onto the back of Alexia. While the move was illegal, a stab to the back, there was some nuance within the stressful fight that forced the refs to keep the game going. Injuries were bound to happen. A wave of water spread in front of Elijah as he rounded his way to the attackers alongside Novius.

An event that Elijah had expected to happen had finally happened. Novius' affinity was very special and destructive, but without any defensive capabilities whatsoever. His affinity could be considered a support affinity, however, within the front of a group, his power shined when under the protection of others.

Blargh!

Novius was hit with a gust of wind that his Lightning could not block from the wind mage behind the turtle-like shell of a stone mound. His body went flying backward and eventually slid across the stone floor that distanced him from the fight.

"Do you really think you can win this?!" Elijah was struggling as the fire mage threw an onslaught of differently shaped fire spells at his water barrier that covered his body, and went with a taunt that could possibly throw his opponent off guard.

By myself again huh? That's always how it starts and ends. If I do this, there is no going back. I have to hope the questioning does not result in me being considered a bringer of doom considering everything that has happened within this kingdom…

While feeling the mana within his core slowly extinguish, Elijah closed his eyes as he sent a small bit of mana in front of the fire mage. The opportunity was perfect as the moment he stepped forward a violent gust of wind slightly threw him off balance as it whizzed by his back. However, his focus was thirty feet in front of him. On the left side of the round stone hump was a fire mage that had received backlash from a fireball exploding in his face. Randomly within thin air was a small water shield infused with small amounts of space magic. The water had a different shine to it. An ethereal and sparkled face was the only thing the fire mage saw before his own arm and face felt the wrath of his own spell.

BOOM!

Elijah rode the wave of water underneath his feet and took a wide swing of his sword into the smoke hoping for a hit. Unfortunately, the momentum of his body carried him forward as he ended up on the ground directly on top of his oppressor. A wildly sharp blade of wind came into contact with the blunted wooden sword and cleanly took off its tip while cutting a small portion of hair as Elijah ducked and practically kissed the stomach of the confused child. What he thought was going to be a second blade of wind turned out to be a gust of wind that he could not block, and was just barely able to grab the arm of the fire mage and felt it crack as he slid across the stone floor in pain.

Elijah was finished, he was completely out of mana, and was struggling to stay conscious from the force of the blast that sent him flying. The price for what he deemed was entertaining, was the possibility of losing it all.
