Chapter 56: Controlling The Region

A week had passed since the capture of Jenkas. Victor and his men tried to leave a lasting impression on the new Luxenberg citizens. Initially, it was hard to sway their perceptions of Victor and the Luxenberg forces. For the locals of Jenkas, Victor was nothing more than a conqueror, while the villages attached to Jenkas saw Victor as just another noble sapping them of their wealth.

To start Victor began releasing prisoners of war. Any soldier that had been forcibly recruited from nearby villages or was a militia unit for Jenkas was released immediately. This was a risky move for Victor, as it could have resulted in him bolstering his enemy's ranks. He then offered the rest of the prisoners the same choice he had presented to them over a month ago: Stay in captivity or fight for him and receive the benefits of being a soldier in his army.

This time around 3,000 infantrymen accepted this deal, many of them had grown weary of being in captivity for over a month. Victor also used the Maximillian's personal treasury to compensate the citizens of the city for any damage to their property. Reparations were also made for any loved one killed during the battles.

By doing this Victor saw his popularity slowly grow during that time. Victor also sent messenger pigeons to Leibenzig and Kreighelm demanding their surrender and obedience. All Victor could do was wait for a response.

While Victor was going over documents on the city's financial reports, a servant knocked on the door and entered Victor's office. The servant delivered a letter bearing the Luxenberg seal. Slightly confused, Victor broke the seal and began to read the letter.

It was from Clarisse. She wrote to congratulate her husband on the success he had gained so far and that he was constantly on her mind. However, the last line of the letter left Victor shocked: I am pregnant.

'Pregnant?! As in, she is pregnant with my child?' Victor thought while trying to overcome the whirlwind of emotions beginning to stir inside of him. Joy, nervousness, sorrow and confusion were vigorously battling one another for control of Victor's mental state.

He was sad to be apart from Clarisse but duty compelled him to continue the war. Despite that sorrow, Victor was ecstatic to return to Hannover and rejoin his family. Elated by such news Victor proceeded to tell his commanders and uncle. Like Victor they were joyous at such news, producing an heir would solidify the succession and quell the uncertain future of the territory in the event of Victor's death.

Impassioned by the news of his wife's pregnancy, Victor worked ever more diligently to speed up the process of this occupation and war. Unrelenting in his efforts Victor and the Luxenberg army took every opportunity to do good in the local communities and restore peace to Jenkas.

2 weeks passed in the blink of an eye, and letters from Leibenzig and Kreighelm arrived. Both letters were from the cities' respective governors, appointed by Osmund Maximillian. After learning of his death and the capture of his family the governors had no choice to submit. They simply could not withstand Victor's army during a siege.

With word of their submission, Victor released all the remaining prisoners of war and even managed to recruit half of them to his ranks. With his army now at 60,000 infantrymen, 8,000 cavalrymen, and 240 guns, Victor used his corp system.

General Rapp and his 24,000 infantrymen, 2,000 cavalrymen and 80 guns were assigned to march to Leibenzig. Rapp resigned from his post as Governor of Sardia and now was a governor in the city of Leibenzig.

General Bertrand and his corp of 24,000 infantrymen, 2,000 cavalrymen and 80 guns were assigned as the garrison for the Jenkas. Bertrand who was the original mastermind of the siege of Jenkas was given governorship of it as recognition for his role in the campaign.

Larys Cassell and his army of 25,000 infantrymen, 5,000 cavalrymen, and 120 guns were tasked with overseeing the city of Kreighelm. Although the Cassell Dukedom did not contribute much to this war, Victor felt he owed them for their participation and granted them Kreighelm. Kreighelm and its surrounding villages bordered the Cassell Dukedom, so it only made sense for that city to fall to them.

Finalising the deployment of his army, Victor could only think about his family. It had been over three months since he had talked with his sister or hugged his wife. As soon as he could finish his tasks, he took his personal guard and rode straight for Hannover.

When Victor retired for the evening, he fell onto his bed and sprawled out. It was mentally draining trying to organise a new territory that was the same size as his original territory. In the span of 4 months, he had doubled the size of his domain. As Victor slowly began to fade away into a relaxing slumber a lit-up blue screen from the system appeared.

'Main Quest Completed!: Conquer The Grand Duchy Of Maximillian!'

'Rewards: 10x 1000-Man Infantry Unit Summon, 1x 1000-Man Bodyguard Unit Summon, 1x 300-Man Cavalry Unit Summon, 2x Medium-Level Commander Summon, 50,000 Store Points '

Victor who was drifting to sleep now found a new burst of energy. This was a large haul of rewards. With this, he could boost his army and elite guard through these summoned units and have 2 more generals to serve him well.

Leaving no time to think Victor went on a frenzy of summoning units. 6,000 Brunswick Line Infantry, 3,000 French Chasseurs and 1,000 soldiers of the 95th Foot Rifles. Were now the newest soldiers in the army. Victor planned to station them at Jenkas as an added garrison for the grand city.

With the addition of 1,000 French Imperial Guard soldiers and 300 Royal Scots Grey Cavalrymen, Victor's elite guard had risen in size to 1,225 infantrymen and 420 cavalrymen. If Victor were to form a kingdom they would be renamed to the Royal Guard, but that was still a dream for Victor.

All that remained of his rewards was the 50,000 Store Points and 2 Medium-Level Commander Summons. Victor would save the points for when he was in a crisis but had no hesitation in using 2 Medium-Level Commander Summons.

The first Medium-Level Commander Summon began its animation. A yellow mist enshrouded the screen keeping the approaching silhouette unrecognisable. As the figure slowly approached Victor struggled to identify him. The man was wearing a Prussian General's uniform. His hair was short and receding, and paired with long sideburns. He had green eyes and a small mouth.

Victor had a rough idea of who he was and let the animation finish. Once it was all done the screen read, 'General Bogislav Friedrich Emanuel Graf Tauentzien' with 3 stars next to his name.

General Tauentzien was competent as both a commander and military governor. He had participated in battles such as Jena and Leipzig, making him a good candidate to step in as the new Governor of Sardia.

With 1 summon left Victor used it immediately and was pleasantly surprised with who he got.
