Chapter 127: Securing Osterbon

To try and avoid any further loss of life during this war, Victor sent forth a messenger to organise a meeting between himself and Grand Duchess Fontaine or Harrison Fontaine. He hoped that he could negotiate the surrender of the city while offering comfortable terms to release Grand Duke Fontaine and Stetson.

Victor's messenger was received warmly, and within a few hours, the two sides met in front of the city's walls. A tent was set up with a table and multiple chairs. Victor stationed a few of his Royal Guards around the tent and had a few more nearby with Stetson and Simeon.

Victor, Field Marshal Schwarzenberg, Marshal Lannes, and Marshal Soult represented the Luxenberg side. For the Fontaines, both Harrison and his mother, Grand Duchess Helen, were present for the meeting.

With both sides present, Victor initiated the conversation. "Grand Duchess, Harrison, I thank you both for coming to treat with me. As a show of goodwill, I have brought the Grand Duke and Stetson. You are more than welcome to see them and check if they are well." Promptly, the two prisoners were brought to the meeting place.

As soon as Helen saw the two prisoners, she raced to embrace them. No news had come about the fate of her husband and son, so seeing them alive and not harmed was a relief. Harrison just stood still, not really phased about seeing his family. Helen took her time before returning to the table.

Harrison was impatient with his mother; she was taking her time when they should have been focusing on this negotiation. "King Victor, on behalf of me and my mother, we appreciate this kind gesture. We should not dawdle with unneccessary actions. Would you mind telling us your demands?" Harrison said seriously.

"Straight to the point, I respect that. My terms are simple: Surrender the city. In return, I will not harm any of your family. Your parents would have to be locked away, but you, your brother, nephew and sister in-law can be granted your belongings and wealth and sent onto a ship heading to a continent of your choosing." Victor offered.

Considering their current situation, this was more than a fair offer. There was obviously a risk of future rebellion, but that could easily be squashed. Helen was heavily against it, constantly voicing her displeasure. She was about to storm off before her husband interjected.

"King Victor. Do you promise that both my sons and my little grandson can live comfortably? If you are true to your word, I will agree to those terms." Simeon's words made Helen go pale, she did not want to be a prisoner, especially for the man who would not give Kreighelm to her. He was the reason that they went to war in the first place. They perceived his ascension to becoming king as arrogant and spiteful.

Victor assured Simeon that he would keep to his word. It was a painful pill for Simeon to swallow, but he ordered his second son, Harrison, to assist King Victor in ensuring a peaceful transition. Harrison would faithfully follow his father's wishes; besides, he would benefit greatly by doing so. He would be able to live freely and keep his wealth while living on another continent.

With the support of Harrison, the Luxenberg army marched into Osterbon uncontested. The Fontaine family was put under house arrest, and the city was not harmed or pillaged in any way. By taking Osterbon, Victor had accomplished another historic feat: He united the continent of Bulgar under his banner. From Hannover to Osterbon, the cities in between all waved the Luxenberg banner.

In the palace, a party was thrown for the commanders of the Luxenberg Army. They had succeeded, the war was finally over, and they could finally return home. Victor was seen drinking with his commanders and chatting the night away. There was still a boat-load of work to do, but for now, he had earned this.

When he awoke the next morning, Victor had to deal with the consequences of the previous night's actions. He was incredibly groggy and had a killer headache. What sobered him was the appearance of the system.

'Main Quest 2 Completed!: Conquer The Grand Duchy Of Fontaine'

'Rewards: 1x Legendary-Level Commander Summon, 1x High-Level Commander Summon, 10x 1000-Man Infantry Unit Summon, 10x 300-man Cavalry Unit Summon and 1x 100-Gun Artillery Summon.'

Victor was astonished, he had completely forgotten about this quest. He had been given it when the war between the Maldenbergs and Fontaines was beginning. Although the rewards were different from the Maldenberg quest, Victor was still extremely grateful for it. He was also curious about what a High-Level Commander Summon was. He soon learned that it was a guaranteed 4-star commander summon.

Victor was quick to use these rewards. He immediately summoned 7,000 Brunswick Line Infantrymen, 2,000 French Chasseurs and 1,000 Russian jaegers. They were followed by the standard 100, 12-pounder cannons. Then, he used 4 out of his 10 cavalry summons on Russian Cossacks. Another 4 were used for Prussian Totenkopf-Husaren (Death's Head Hussars). The last 2 were used for French Cuirassiers.

When it came to the legendary and epic commander summons, Victor began to think of the people he would want. If he could get someone like Berthier, Wellington or Davout, he would be happy. The 4-star general he would get would take over the command of 4th Corps, since they were lacking a commander.

For the High-Level Commander Summon, orange smoke engulfed the majority of the screen. A man in a French Marshal's uniform began to appear. He was middle-aged and slightly chubby. He had short, curly black hair and brown eyes. Victor grew excited with who he got.

When the animation ended the screen read, 'Marshal François Joseph Lefebvre'; there were 4 stars next to his name. This man would be a valued addition to the Luxenberg Army. He was a real tough but unfortunate man. During his life he had lost 3 brothers in the French Revolution, and he sadly outlived all of his 14 children.

The man was a senior member of the French Army and served in many battles both during and before the Napoleonic era. He was present for the battles of Wagram and Jena, and was also present for the invasion of Russia. His leadership would be great for 4th Corps.

Now it was time to use the Legendary-Level Commander Summon.
