Lin Fei felt calm. The world around him disappeared, leaving only him and the men advancing on his position. His mind honed from over a million years of experience easily gauged their form of combat.
Lin Fei felt powerful. His muscles hid an explosive strength ready to be unleashed, while a mighty essence swirled around his being.
And Lin Fei smiled. His hand swept out, grabbing hold of the sword advancing his way. He pulled the man toward him, into the path of the mace being swung by their fellow ally. The man changed his direction at the last moment. Big mistake.
Twisting the sword-holding arm in such a way that it faced its own friend, Lin Fei pushed and watched as the sword was stabbed deep into the man's thigh, who released a pained scream.
The rest of the two men had reoriented themselves and were ready to lunge. Lin Fei kneed the man he held in the face, with enough strength to break his nose.
He twisted around the stab from another man with a dagger and reached backward, grabbing on to his collar and yanking it, and him alongside it, down.
As the man started falling backward, Lin Fei swept his legs under, putting the man off-balance, and with a loud thud, his head slammed against the ground. With a kick to the head, he was put out of commission.
The last man went rigid as Lin Fei's gaze locked onto him. He took a few hesitant steps forward and then released a cry before charging recklessly.
Lin Fei dodged to the side and punched the man in his guts. As he fell to his knees, a kick to the back of his head was enough to send him to wonderland.
"Impressive." Chen Wei remarked. "You must've completed your Bone Refinement as well. That would explain your lack of contribution points." Shaking his head, he sighed. "What a waste, though."
Lin Fei tilted his head, not speaking. His face was as impassive as a stone.
Chen Wei brought out a saber and made a few motions with his wrist. "I won't kill you, don't worry."
A sardonic smile formed on Lin Fei's lips before he shook his head. "I like your confidence. But to me, it's nothing more than blind arrogance."
Chen Wei frowned but didn't answer; instead, he sprinted forth with startling speed. His cultivation at the peak of the Mortal Foundation Realm making itself known.
Lin Fei cautiously watched as the blade advanced in his field of vision. He leaned to the side, only a fraction of a second late as the robe was torn open.
In the first place, a saber was meant to be used as a fast weapon. It was designed to end the battle as quickly as possible, and those who perceived Saber Dao always sought speed more than anything else.
He saw a flicker of surprise pass through Chen Wei's expression, but the man was decisive. He quickly rounded on Lin Fei, slashing with his saber.
Lin Fei jumped backward, but Chen Wei was quick to follow. Taking a stance like shown in the Earthly Titan Body Art, Lin Fei watched as the man swiped with overwhelming ferocity.
He bent forward with fast movement, moving into Chen Wei's personal space, and grabbed hold of his wrist. The man's eyes widened to extremes, but he was given no time to react.
The next moment, Lin Fei's fist was advancing on his face. As the uppercut connected with his jaw, and the bones in his face rattled. Blood gushed from his strained gums, and his brain suffered a minor concussion.
Lin Fei hadn't held back at all. He pulled the saber from Chen Wei's hand before dropping another punch on his face. The man fell to the ground but was given no time to rest and think. Instead, a kick to the neck brought out his tears and snot, mixed with thick strands of blood.
"W-Wait..." The man tried.
Lin Fei didn't listen, lacing another punch to the side of his face. And with that the man collapsed on the ground, a gurgling mess that breathed in dust and blood.
His eyes briefly wandered to Ye Chenxi, who was looking at him like he had seen a ghost or something.
"Ok, now you're permitted to speak." He knelt next to the addle-brained man and lightly poked him in his ribs.
Chen Wei coughed a wad of saliva mixed with blood. "D—Don't kill me... P—please..."
Lin Fei sighed and plopped his butt down. "You shouldn't have come here then, you know? I believe in returning favors done to me. You're just lucky that I'm in a good mood today; otherwise your head would've rolled long ago."
"J—Just let me go..."
"Give me a single reason?"
Chen Wei blinked, wiping the dust stuck to his nose and lips. "I can help you. I know a lot of the upper-rank disciples."
"And how would that help me?" Lin Fei asked with a raised brow.
"After completing the Trial Disciple requirement, you can be promoted to a Servant Disciple—Eek!"
Before the man could complete his sentence, Lin Fei slapped him right on his cheek. "I already know all of that, dumbass; I'm asking you why you're worth more alive than dead."
Chen Wei gritted his teeth and tried to stand up, but a glare from Lin Fei forced him to continue in his uncomfortable position. "I have connections." He said. "I can talk to some Inner Disciples to give you proper treatment, which others don't usually receive."
In the Void Sword Sect, a disciple would start as a trial disciple before being promoted to a servant disciple. The goal of the task was to provide a caretaker for both Inner and Core Disciples and also help the Servant Disciple grow familiar with their customs.
Of course, Lin Fei knew the truth was just to save on the costs because both Inner and Core Disciples were the future of the sect, and providing premium facilities was one way to keep them loyal.
Lin Fei didn't really need anyone's help, but looking at Chen Wei, an idea started to take shape in his mind.
"How much do you have on hand?" He asked.
"What?"
"Contribution Points, how much?"
"Eh." Chen Wei paused, a light flashing in his pupils. "I... Most of the contribution points were sent as a gift to Inner Court Disciple Song Yan. So, I only have a little over a hundred."
Lin Fei flashed a scorned look at him and clicked his tongue. "Whatever." He shook his head. "Take your goons off my porch and go buy some food for me. And if you try to create any more trouble, I won't be so generous anymore. Got it?"
Chen Wei stared at him for a second before nodding.
"Good, and call me Boss Lin from now on."
"Yes, ... Boss Lin."
