With a clear goal in mind, Yi Bai found himself unexpectedly looking forward to the arrival of the next game. What others feared as a terrifying, savage ordeal, for him, had become something entirely different—almost a shift in perspective.
"Let's go. It's time to start building our little paradise in this world," Yi Bai smiled slightly, taking Shirl's hand. With her sweet smile, they left the logging yard behind.
The logging yard was nestled deep in the heart of the forest, far off the beaten path. One could only wonder what the original builders had been thinking when they set up this factory in such a secluded location. But for Yi Bai and Shirl, it provided the perfect opportunity to work without interruption.
A vampire and a spirit—both beings of extraordinary power—could clear vast areas in a matter of moments. In no time, they had transformed the area into something entirely different.
Yi Bai, holding a small mirror, stood at the perfect spot and released the "facilities" from within the mirror's realm. Shirl was doing the same thing, adding her own touch.
If the children of the horror world could witness such an event, they might just lose their minds. What they were doing was not creating a paradise, but rather playing the role of movers, transporting what they needed to build it.
Meanwhile, in a seemingly ordinary flatbread shop on the outskirts of the city, a group of workers—men and women dressed in plain clothes—entered the back room. Shortly after, in the underground base of the Pingluan Palace, a man with glasses and a meticulously neat appearance turned to the returning group and asked, "What did you learn? Has he shown any interest in joining us?"
"I'm afraid not. After much speculation, we concluded that he's not inclined to join the Pingluan Palace," the leader of the workers replied.
"Oh? What do you mean? Did he refuse our generous offer?" the man with glasses asked.
"It's not like that. In fact, we never even saw his true form. The person who appeared on the monitor at first was just an illusion—a phantom, really. If it hadn't dissipated in front of our eyes, we wouldn't have been able to tell whether it was real or not."
"An illusion!" The man's voice rose sharply. If they had previously suspected Yi Bai might be a "Divine Chosen," now they were certain.
While modern technology could create realistic images, an illusion so convincing that it fooled several of their agents was beyond what current technology could achieve.
"Well..." the man with glasses sighed. The fact that Yi Bai had appeared and disappeared in front of them, so deliberately, sent a clear message: "Don't try to recruit me—I'm not interested in joining Pingluan Palace."
"What a pity. A Divine Chosen... Lately, something must have changed in the horror world. The death rate among players has skyrocketed," the man muttered, but he didn't issue further orders to recruit Yi Bai. When someone has made their position clear, further attempts are no longer persuasion—they're an affront.
"You're right. Yi Bai, this Divine Chosen, is not meant to be ours…" the man sighed again.
In less than half a day, the paradise in the heart of the forest was "constructed." The speed was thanks to the generous gifts from their previous "paradise."
Yi Bai and Shirl, however, were merely the movers, transporting what was needed.
The two figures—one large, one small—sat atop the Titan Ferris wheel, looking down at their creation, satisfaction evident in their eyes.
To ensure the park remained hidden, Shirl had used her considerable powers. By attaching her energy to mirrors and manipulating light and shadow, she created an illusion. To anyone on the outside, the forest would seem ordinary, and even the logging yard itself was concealed.
This simple yet effective ability would last for half a month with minimal drain on Shirl's energy.
After the park was finished, Yi Bai and Shirl enjoyed a rare moment of peace.
Yi Bai's daily routine became clear:
Play games with Shirl.Play new games with Shirl.Play updated games with Shirl…
Life wasn't always filled with excitement. Calm and serenity had their place too. Of course, as long as Yi Bai didn't stray too close to the edge of the "chopper," his life would be peaceful.
The Soul-Shattering Mirror's existence always ensured he walked the line of propriety, avoiding anything extreme.
Shirl, for her part, adored the closeness between them, enjoying their bond.
Meanwhile, the blood sent by Liu Zhen had been consumed, and though the taste hadn't been remarkable, its effects on Yi Bai had been noticeable. Though still not at the level of an Evil Ghost, his power had already reached the pinnacle of that stage. One more push and he would ascend to the level of a Fierce Ghost.
Leisure days always passed quickly.
Having arranged for Liu Zhen to handle the cooling equipment, Yi Bai's third horror game finally arrived.
Shirl cheered, her amber eyes sparkling with excitement. Despite the beauty of the mortal world, after a while, the thrill faded. For Shirl, participating in these games felt like returning home—a feeling of comfort!
She leaped into Yi Bai's arms, and in the next moment, his form slowly faded from the room.
The moment his consciousness returned, voices flooded his ears.
"Vacation Resort of the Dead!"
"Lucky!"
"Finally! We can breathe easy for once."
"Yeah! Based on the information from Pingluan Palace, this is one of the few horror game dungeons with a survival rate of 60%!"
The players were abuzz, relief and excitement on their faces.
A 60% survival rate? After what Yi Bai had faced in the first two games, that seemed like quite an impressive number!
