The mysterious eggs under the pantry had become a silent but persistent cloud hanging over the group's heads. While life in the apartment carried on with its usual mix of hilarity and bizarre normalcy, there was an unspoken tension. It was as though everyone was waiting for the moment those alien-looking shells would finally reveal their secrets.
Mallory, of course, dealt with this the way she dealt with most problems—by ignoring them.
"Eggs under the pantry?" she said one evening, her mouth full of chips. "Not my problem. I'm on a strict 'out of sight, out of mind' diet."
"You're unbelievable," Vanessa said, rolling her eyes as she tightened the barricades on the front door.
"That's what my high school guidance counselor said too," Mallory quipped, tossing another chip into her mouth.
But deep down, even Mallory couldn't completely shake the feeling of impending doom. Especially since Blinky had started behaving… strangely.
