Chapter 25: The Brothers' Dispute

Kane sits in his camp, discussing the next strategy with the mercenary leader. His eyes were sharp and calm, and everyone was used to his thoughtful manner. However, a piece of intelligence from the front leads to a complete breakdown of his sanity.

"Natalie?" He whispered the name, a flash of anger in his eyes. "She was chosen by Reno to join his army?"

His fists clenched, and there was anger in his eyes. He still has a strong impression of "Natalie" from that day, and her movements, tone of voice and even eyes feel familiar to him. Although there was no direct evidence, he felt vaguely that she might be the Elena he had been searching for.

"Renault..." Kane's voice was low, almost out of his throat. "What do you want?"

He stood up and said coldly to the adjutant next to him, "Saddle up, I'm going to Reno's camp."

The adjutant froze: "Your Highness, I'm afraid to go now..."

'Now! Kane raised his voice sharply, with an unmistakable coldness in his eyes.

Meanwhile, in Reno's camp, Natalie is standing in a simple tent. With her hands behind her back, she looked calmly at Renault before her. He was neatly dressed in military uniform, but there was an inscrutable look in his eyes.

"Natalie," Leno began slowly, his voice low and calm, "I've been thinking lately that you look a lot like someone I used to know."

Natalie's heart jumped, but she kept a calm expression and a steady tone: "Your Highness, I don't understand what you mean. I'm only a common mercenary, and I'm afraid I have nothing to do with anyone you know."

Renaud narrowed his eyes slightly, and his gaze swept across her face like a sword. "Really? But your movements, your tone of voice, even the way you look at me, are familiar to me."

Natalie lowered her eyes and said respectfully but firmly, "Your Highness, maybe it's just a coincidence."

Renaud did not speak again, but took a step closer and said slowly, "Let's talk then." Perhaps I can get something out of you."

Natalie's heart tightened, but she knew that any sign of unease would make him more suspicious.

Renaud was just about to go further when there was a rapid sound of footsteps outside the tent. The next moment the tent curtain was flung open and Kane came storming in.

'Renault! Kane shouted coldly, his eyes burning with anger. "I need to see Natalie."

Renaud looked up with a faint hint of sarcasm on his face. "Kane, is this your courtesy for breaking into my camp and not knocking?"

Kane sneered and looked straight past Renaud to Natalie. His brow was furrowed, and there was a mixed emotion in his eyes.

"Natalie, come with me." Kane said coldly, with no room for discussion.

Natalie's heart was shocked and felt the tense confrontation between the two. She knows she has to be careful now that any wrong move could blow her cover.

"Kane," Renaud said, slowly stepping forward and standing in front of Natalie, his voice cold and sarcastic, "This is my army, she is my man, why are you taking her?"

"I don't need your permission." Kane looked straight at Renaud, his voice low and subdued. "Natalie is the one for me. She shouldn't be in your camp."

'Oh? Renaud's eyes grew colder, and his lips raised a sneer. "Who are you looking for? Kane, have you forgotten that this is my place?"

Kane stepped forward with anger in his eyes. "Leno, I warn you, if you do anything against her, I will not stand idly by!"

Reno did not flinch, with a veiled threat in his voice: "She is mine, and it is not for you to interfere with how I will treat her."

The argument escalated and the tension inside the tent was almost suffocating.

"Leno," Kane said through clenched teeth, exasperated, "why are you holding on to Natalie? Do you really suspect something?"

"Doubt? Leno sneered, staring knife-like at Kane, "What I suspect is your motive." Kane, are you so eager to take her away that you have something to hide?"

Kane's fists were clenched, almost swinging at Leno, but he forced himself to calm down. He took a deep breath and said coldly, "You can guess what you want, but I'm not going to leave Natalie with someone who's up to something."

Leno's eyes grew colder as he edged closer to Kane and whispered, "A man with a bad heart? Kane, your accusations are ridiculous. Don't forget, you are only my brother, and I am the future of the Empire."

Kane's eyes flashed with anger, but he finally overcame all emotion and turned to Natalie. "Natalie, if you will leave here, I can guarantee your safety."

Natalie bowed her head slightly and said calmly, "Sir Kane, I am very grateful for your concern, but I am under Lord Raynor now, and I must do my duty."
