A place to breath

The group moved through the campus, their breaths heavy and their nerves frayed. The eerie silence was broken only by the faint sound of distant screams. Luke led the way, his eyes scanning every shadow for movement.

"There" Jeff whispered, pointing to a storage building ahead.

The old structure looked like it had seen better days, its peeling paint and broken windows giving it a haunting appearance.

"Let's get inside," Luke said, quickening his pace.

Jeff stepped forward with his trusty brick, smashing the padlock off with one swing. The door creaked open, revealing the dark interior.

"Wait," Mira said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Do you hear that?"

Everyone froze. From inside came the faint murmur of voices. Luke motioned for the group to stay quiet as he pushed the door open wider.

Inside, they found a small group of students huddled in the corner, their faces pale with fear. Among them was Akin, his sharp features unmistakable even in the dim light.

"Akin?" Mira said, her voice laced with surprise.

He looked up, his expression flickering between relief and something else Luke couldn't quite place. "Mira? What are you doing here?"

"Trying to not die," she replied flatly. "What are you doing here?"

"We've been here since this whole thing started," Akin said quickly.

Luke frowned. "Since it started? How'd you know to come here? The outbreak just happened."

Akin's jaw tightened, and his eyes darted to the other students. "Lucky guess. We saw things going south and decided to hide."

Luke wasn't buying it. The building wasn't exactly an obvious place to take shelter, and Akin didn't strike him as the type to act fast in a crisis.

Collins, oblivious to Luke's suspicion, stepped forward. "Well, lucky for us, you've got company now."

Akin didn't reply, his eyes briefly locking with Luke's before he turned away.

Jeff broke the tension by tossing the broken lock to the side. "We should barricade the door. Don't want anything—or anyone—sneaking in."

"Good idea," Luke said, moving to help. As they dragged a heavy cabinet in front of the door, he couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something was off about Akin.

Mira, meanwhile, sat on an old chair, her arms crossed as she watched Akin. "You're awfully quiet," she said.

"Just trying to stay alive," Akin replied.

"Convenient," Luke muttered under his breath, earning a sharp glance from Akin.

The room fell silent as everyone settled into uneasy rest. Justin pulled out a half-eaten bag of chips, offering it to anyone who wanted some. Favour, ever the optimist, opened his bag and pulled out a book.

"What's that?" Jeff asked.

"'Virology Basics,'" Favour said. "Thought it might come in handy."

Collins groaned. "Of course you brought a textbook."

"Hey, knowledge is power," Favour shot back.

As the others bantered, Luke's gaze lingered on Akin. The guy wasn't acting scared—not the way everyone else was. If anything, he looked... calculated.

"Something wrong, Luke?" Mira asked quietly, noticing his tension.

"Not sure yet," he replied, his voice low. "But I've got my eye on him bro is sus".
