Chapter 92: The Devil of the Zabi Family
How could Zeon possibly have the capability to build a second Big Zam?
While dodging the dense barrage of firepower unleashed by the Big Zam, Eli retreated.
At this moment, pressing forward any further would be too reckless.
The attitude control thrusters on his shoulders flickered, maneuvering the mobile suit swiftly from side to side.
However, it was clear that Dozle had already locked his sights onto him.
Dozle had no idea that Eli had run out of ammunition. Naturally, he was targeting the EZ-SR, the mobile suit most capable of damaging the Big Zam!
"You dare challenge the Big Zam?!"
Dozle roared.
Originally, these two Big Zams were the key to his counteroffensive. The previous retreat order had merely been a tactic to regroup, but now, circumstances had forced him to commit to a full withdrawal.
Two Big Zams—though they could only operate for twenty minutes—had overwhelming firepower and defense. Dozle firmly believed that, attacking from two directions, they could crush this fleet and thwart the Federation's counterattack!
The frontline battle on Earth was nearing complete collapse, but at the very least, they needed to stabilize the situation in space.
At worst, Zeon and the Federation could divide their territories and rule separately.
At this moment, Dozle's mind was unexpectedly sharp, formulating his own resolution to the war.
But for now, the immediate priority was eliminating the Gundam that threatened to destroy all of his plans!
Boom—
Just as Dozle was thinking this, a slow-moving rocket unexpectedly slipped through the gaps between the beams and anti-air fire, striking the thick armor on Big Zam's side.
The impact blasted open a hole in the armor, but the damage was superficial.
"Amuro!"
Eli immediately realized that this attack had come from Amuro.
Only he could find an opening to breach the defensive net in such a situation.
"Eli-san, I'm sorry! I couldn't stop him!"
Through the thick smoke from the explosion at Solomon's fortress gate, NT-1 emerged, transmitting a communication.
NT-1's condition didn't look great.
Its Gatling guns were exposed, unable to retract properly—clearly suffering from structural damage due to prolonged use.
The beam rifle mounted at its back was gone, and its shield had a large, curved gash—evidence of a direct hit from a beam weapon.
Fortunately, the NT-1 itself hadn't sustained significant damage.
"It's not your fault. Holding them off for this long was already incredible."
It seemed that the reason both Big Zams hadn't charged out simultaneously to expand their advantage was Amuro's desperate efforts to delay them inside Solomon.
The two wanted to continue their conversation, but the Big Zam, seemingly infuriated by their exchange, abruptly fired its massive chest-mounted MEGA particle cannon.
Both mobile suits immediately maneuvered to evade the massive beam, attacking from two directions.
However, the Big Zam was a three-person-operated machine. It wouldn't be thrown into chaos just because it had to divide its focus.
The side gunners promptly redirected their respective firepower, concentrating their attacks on the two Gundams.
Yet, much to their frustration, their attacks continued to be ineffective.
Even when they flooded a section of space with beams, the Gundams would always emerge unscathed once the light dissipated.
It was as if their every move had already been predicted!
"Don't panic! I'll handle this!"
At that moment, Dozle's voice rang out from the main control seat, steady and reassuring.
"You two, start preparing for evacuation."
His tone was calm as he activated Big Zam's anti-air combat claws, mounted on its legs.
These guided weapons, capable of precise maneuvering, shot toward the two Gundams!
"But, sir—"
"I will die with Solomon. You two don't have to. Return to A Baoa Qu and defend our homeland."
Facing his subordinates, Dozle revealed a rare gentleness, a stark contrast to his rough and imposing exterior.
Behind the Big Zam, Zeon forces were retreating in droves.
Ships that could still move, Zaku units towing personnel, all were withdrawing.
Meanwhile, in front of the Big Zam, lay the Federation fleet—warships, mobile suits, and ball-type units.
It was a true last stand.
In Dozle's mind, he was carving a path of survival for his comrades.
For a warrior, this was an honorable end.
Unfortunately, he was a Zabi.
Dozle could almost hear the mocking laughter from the other side, crashing over him like a tidal wave.
It was the sound of people sneering at the ideals of Zeon.
The victor writes history.
Dozle chose to ignore the scorn.
But those two—those two had to be destroyed!
They were Newtypes.
After engaging them in battle, Dozle was certain.
Newtypes fighting for the Federation was, in itself, a direct rejection of Zeon's ideals.
No matter what, those two Gundams had to be taken down!
Seeing the Big Zam's targeting systems lock onto both him and Amuro, Eli knew that this battle wouldn't end peacefully.
Had he known things would escalate to this, he would have pushed Yashima Heavy Industries harder to produce more ammunition.
After all, he had contributed so much to their success!
Though each round was expensive, today's battle had demonstrated the railgun's lethal effectiveness against enemies with an I-Field barrier right in front of General Tianem.
Without a doubt, Yashima Heavy Industries wouldn't have to worry about orders for this weapon anymore.
The Federation fleets would surely keep them stocked to counter this new defensive technology.
Clack!
With that thought, Eli detached the now-useless railgun from his mobile suit without hesitation.
With no ammunition left, the weapon was nothing but dead weight.
Its long barrel would only create additional problems.
Eli twisted his mobile suit's torso, firing off all remaining missiles from the launchers mounted on its shoulders.
At the same time, Amuro launched a barrage of rockets, blending them into the missile salvo, all streaking toward the Big Zam!
Once his shoulder missile launchers were emptied, Eli jettisoned them as well.
Now, the EZ-SR was stripped down to its most basic form.
But that did nothing to shake Eli's fighting spirit.
Even knowing that the Big Zam had singled him out, he remained unfazed.
With all his long-range weapons depleted, the only way to damage the Big Zam now was to get up close and use his beam saber.
"Don't get shot down, Amuro!"
