Traven was getting his ass handed to him, playing Gun Game with Eli and Daniel. The game was a bit different than it had been four years ago, when he had been ranked on global leaderboards, Now it seemed that thebigbadwolf007 had lost his touch. Every time he thought he had Eli or Daniel trapped he was ambushed, missed his shot, if the game allowed it he probably would have shot himself in the foot.
"You guys are teaming up on me," he complained. "I used to be fucking awesome at this." He fought the urge to throw the controller at Daniel, who had somehow snuck in through a window Traven hadn't seen and shot him with a bow and arrow. "Dick," he said, giving Daniel the stink eye.
They all laughed. It was just a game. Still, Traven felt something in him stir, that competitive part of him that had gone dormant from lack of use. He realized how lonely he had been, after all wolves were pack animals.
"Sore loser," Eli, who had dominated the game, teased him. This earned him a throw pillow to the face from Traven. That started the craziness that Lucky walked in to after her nap. A shoe flew by her head, just missing her. The whole suite was a mess. Pillows, shoes, socks, toilet paper rolls, and anything else that could be used as a projectile littered the floors.
"Did I miss something?" She asked, bewildered. It looked like a tornado had ripped through the suite. She picked up what had once been a tomato from the kitchen floor, while Flappy chewed happily on a raw piece of steak that he found stuck to the wall.
"Just some male bonding, werewolf style!" Eli was breathing heavily, and Traven came out from behind the chair he had been hiding behind, seconds later. a burrito hit him in the face and maniacal cackling could be heard from the kitchen area. Daniel's head popped up over the small center island.
"Gotcha!" He declared, and Lucky just shook her head, not knowing whether she should laugh or be mad about the mess they had made.
"Food fight, I see?" She found it hard to get angry, seeing Traven look so happy and alive, his smile finally reaching his eyes.
"In our defense, nothing is going to waste, check out the highly efficient clean up crew," he pointed at Flappy, who was in dog heaven with so many snacks to choose from.
"Did you guys drink that whole bottle of whiskey?" She held the empty bottle up, and they all ducked as though she might throw it at them.
"It was Flappy," Eli pointed at the lab, who growled at him and went and stood by his food bowl. Lucky went to feed him, shaking her head. "Didn't you just eat a whole food fight?"
"That was an appetizer," Traven said, laughing. Flappy scarfed down his meal and wandered to the living room, settling on the couch.
"Anyway," Lucky said, "we were talking about going to your pack, right?"
"Yes. Our Alpha approved, he is actually excited to meet you after hearing your story." Eli replied.
"Well, what do you think, Traven?" She asked, knowing what his answer would be. The three of them had become fast friends.
"I think we should at least check it out," he told her.
That settled it, they were going to Desert Moon. Lucky was excited to meet more werewolves, after hearing Traven talk about running with the pack she knew it was something she wanted to experience. She couldn't help but wish she could go to Midnight Moon, the answers to so many of her questions could be waiting for her there. She had an idea. "Eli, you said your pack is close with Midnight Moon. I would like to visit there. Traven, I know you can't, but please understand I want to know where I came from. Who my parents were. And maybe I can find something to help you, too," Traven looked sad, but Lucky knew he would support her, after all she wouldn't stay without him for long.
The mate bond was a strange thing. It almost seemed like a drug. More and more she wanted to be close to him, to feel the tingling sensations his touch could give her. The thought of being with him didn't make her feel panic as she thought it would. Instead she was curious, what would it be like to be with someone of her own free will? What was this thing people were willing to pay large amounts of money to do? She felt a heat in the pit of her stomach, her eyes glued to her mate's, she watched them get dark with desire.
She could tell what he was thinking even without a mind link.
Apparently once she was sworn in to a pack she would be able to communicate telepathically as well. It would also happen with Traven once they marked each other, although their wolves could already communicate through the mate bond. Lucky remembered hearing a male voice in her head say "mate" when she had met Traven. She wondered how she had been able to hear his wolf, just that one time.
Since then, Nyah and Miles had been communicating regularly with each other and all but ignoring their human sides. Nyah occasionally told her something Miles had said, he was apparently a very funny wolf. Nyah seemed happy, other than her impatience regarding seeing Miles again.
Nyah tried not to let Lucky see how eager she was for the mating and marking to happen, knowing Lucky's past experiences. Lucky could feel it, though. She didn't hold it against Nyah or Miles. She was almost ready, in truth, she was ready. More than ready.
She actually found herself hurrying the two brothers out, they quickly agreed on a location where they would meet the following day so they could take them to the pack.
The door closed behind them, and Lucky looked at Traven, who stood by the bedroom door with a smile that melted any of her remaining resistance. "How did you know?" She asked him, curious.
"I can smell your arousal," he said nonchalantly.
"Oh wow! Could the other guys smell it too?" How embarrassing!
"Yeah, that's why they left so quickly, it wasn't just you telling them we had to get started packing. They knew we weren't going to be packing." Traven shrugged, why be embarrassed? The hottest she wolf in the world wanted him. If anything he was proud.
He knew others who would get crazy jealous if any other male looked at their mates, even to the point of fights breaking out because of a simple hello. That didn't make sense to him. He trusted Lucky would not want to be with anyone but him, and refused to be one of those guys who kept their mates on a tight leash. To him, that showed weakness and insecurity. He wasn't happy about Lucky going to Midnight Moon without him but he knew how much it meant to her and he wanted her to find the answers she needed.
"Traven, I, I think I am ready to, you know, complete the bond," she said, blushing, slowly walking towards him as he backed in to the bedroom.
"I'm not going to tell you no," he replied. He sat on the bed, marveling at how beautiful his mate was, with her long black hair, her startling green eyes, and perfect creamy skin. She had an amazingly curvy body, large breasts, long legs, she could easily be a model. Well, she could if humans weren't so fucking blind to the beauty of a curvy woman, at least the ones in the entertainment industry. Some trends were going against that, which he thought was long overdue. He observed that even human men, if given a choice between a skinny woman and one with curves like his mate, they would choose the curvy woman.
Without a doubt, Lucky was beautiful. There was a reason why rich men had shelled out millions to be with her. He pushed those thoughts out of his mind. Those were the thoughts that could lead him to be violent, thoughts that made Miles growl and bare his teeth. Not the thoughts he wanted to be having right now.
She sat down next to him, and they kissed, gently at first, but as the sparks flew they became more and more frenzied, practically tearing their clothes off until they could finally be as close as nature intended them to be.
Naked, Lucky stood up and shut the bedroom door. Flappy was asleep on the couch, and as much as she loved the sweet pup, she didn't want him to interrupt what was about to happen.
She turned around, meeting Traven's eyes. All she said was, "you ready?"
He was.
