Hugh: The First Superhuman

The screams and shrieks of people reverberated throughout the world, blood splattered all over the streets...painting a blood red canvas, monsters roamed freely as they feasted on the human bodies that lay on the ground.

A catastrophic war that took place 120 years ago and went on for another 20 years, an event that could never be forgotten, it started first with the emergence of the first superhuman to acquire the enlightenment of focus...The first superhuman "Hugh Grandfeil".

Hugh limped whilst wearing a mix of clothes covering his body, he hoped to finish his journey soon.

He was wandering a barren land looking for the remaining monsters, and disasters that haven't been eliminated yet, his lips were visibly dry and his eyes had huge bags below them.

Then Hugh sat down hoping to take a bit of rest as he closed his eyes, he imagined the smiles and cheers of people after he finished his journey, finally bringing peace into this once disastrous world.

'Peace may not be permanent but I'll make sure to keep it for as long as I'm still in this world.'

He opened his eyes as he once again set on towards his journey to clear out the last disasters.

A few hours later, the scorching sun was at it's highest point of the day, Hugh's sweat trickled down on the cracked surface of the barren lands as it immediately started to evaporate, The climates of the earth were more exaggerated after the discovery of the portals leading to other worlds, due to this the temperature rose exponentially in some places on earth and down on others.

And despite Hugh doing his best to keep himself cold using his mana, he could barely keep his consciousness as the scorching heat of the sun tortured him.

Though he received the powers of a level 9 disaster Hugh was still a human.

Hugh was about to take another rest when suddenly the ground started to shake, he sensed a nearby disaster powerful enough to get this close to him without sensing it.

Then suddenly the ground beneath him rose, causing Hugh to Jump back as he raised his hand and conjured a sword emanating with dark mana as if staring into the endless void.

"Finally! You're here...!!"

Despite this predicament Hugh felt neither fear nor uneasiness, instead he felt excitement and relief, battles like this were a normal day for him.

As the debris and smoke of dust cleared up an enormous three-headed dragon appeared before Hugh, it roared making the surrounding area vibrate.

"Hm?"

Hugh's face suddenly turned bitter as he saw the disaster he was facing.

"Tsk! A very annoying disaster just appeared..."

"What's a hydra doing here anyways?"

Hugh's eyes wavered a bit as he rushed towards the hydra.

'I have to kill this monster in one shot or else it'll be troublesome for me...'

Hugh sped up as he momentarily disappeared from sight, before reappearing in front of the left head of the hydra.

He positioned himself in such a way for him to be able to cut all three heads simultaneously.

Then one of the heads of the hydra saw Hugh whilst he was about to swing his sword, startling Hugh as he hesitated for a moment and lost the right timing as he swung his sword, and only managed to cut one of the heads.

"What was that! As soon as it looked at me I felt a sudden feeling of nervousness..."

"That's quite troublesome though."

Hugh said as he stared at the grotesque rapid regeneration of the hydra, as two extra heads replaced the one he cut.

The hydra retaliated as it out an ear-piercing screech before breathing out a pool of toxic liquid.

Hugh jumped at the top of one of the hydra's head to save himself from the toxic liquid, he opened his palms as he let go of the sword causing it to disappear, he rested both his hands on the hydra as he prepared a large scale magic to completely obliterate the disaster.

'I haven't mastered this technique yet but this'll be a good situation to practice using it...'

The hydra was confused as to where Hugh had gone, not knowing that he was on top of them.

'This should be enough.'

Then a dark portal appeared on the heads of the hydra as it separated the heads from the rest of its body.

Hugh then put his hands together as the portal closed cutting off the heads of the hydra, whilst also letting out a shockwave.

Dimensional Cut

Hugh looked extremely tired as he could barely keep his eyes open, his fatigue caused him to pass out.

'Where am I...did I perhaps die..?'

He asked himself as it felt like he was floating in deep space, he couldn't feel anything, and all his other senses seemed to not work.

'No...If I'm dead then how am I still able to think, but what is this place, what's happening? I'm not sure whether my eyes are open or not...'

'...I can't feel my body, Do I have a body in the first place?'

As time passed Hugh found it hard to keep his sanity, he could barely keep himself from going insane...at first he thought this place was peaceful, he later realized his grave mistake.

'1,682,092...That's how many seconds I've been in this place...I think.'

Counting was the only thing that kept Hugh from going crazy as he couldn't feel anything, neither time nor space.

'75,152,894...How many days has it been since I was here...no could it be weeks? Months? Years?'

'3,821,964,32...Oh...I lost count, I guess I'm starting from 1 again.'

Hugh had repeated his count hundreds of times, it felt like he was there for thousands of years though nothing had changed, he had become insane for periods of time before regaining back his sanity.

'Mom? Is that you...why did you leave me here? Didn't you say you'd always support me? No! Don't leave...please don't go!'

He experienced hallucinations without even being able to see anything, he forgot a lot of things...

'Why was I here again? What was my name...Who am I?? What am I...'

'...I remember...I was here to...oh I forgot again.'

Hugh gave up on counting as he simply replayed his techniques and powers in his head several thousand...millions of times.

'Where did these powers come from...was I strong?'

He frequently "saw" memories of his friends and family yet he couldn't recall their faces and names anymore.

After million of years in that space Hugh finally remembered his name.

'Ah right...my name's Hugh hm..'

He repeated his name in his head multiple times to never forget it again, and another countless years later he remembered his friends and family's faces and names.

'They're coming back to me...I've no use for these anymore though...they're probably dead by now.'

Hugh for another several billion years didn't think of anything pointless, he had only focused on mastering his techniques in his mind and creating new ones, though surprisingly he never forgot his name, and anything else again.

Then suddenly Hugh felt the ground...the light from the sun hit his eyelids, he could smell the dead body of the hydra he supposedly fought Billions of years ago.

'Ah...am I finally back.'

Hugh opened his eyes, the warm light of the sun hit his eyes as he got up and gazed at the beautiful sky, he missed this sight as he finally learned the true beauty of this world, he rested his head on the body of the hydra behind him as he appreciated the scenery.

"Ahhh, I thought I'd feel more...excited if I ever got out of that place but, somehow I only feel at peace, despite the scorching heat of the sun I've learned to fully appreciate it."

Then suddenly an unexpected phenomenon started to happen.

"What are these?! What's happening."

Hugh asked himself as an array of flowers, trees, and grass suddenly started to appear around him, the once barren land had turned into a lush, green forest in just a couple of seconds.

'Did I do this?'

He glanced at his hands as he saw a marking on his wrist that he had never seen before, and out of nowhere a voice in his head announced to him what he had accomplished and information that no one knew at the time...

...It was information about the enlightenments and the catastrophes that come with the enlightenment he had gotten.

Hugh sighed deeply, as he thought about the event that had happened to him simultaneously.

"The moment I awoke from that torturous dream I was faced with this huh..."

He wandered the forest as he smiled, then Hugh jumped as he flew atop of the forest, hoping to get a better look at what he had created.

'I've gotten stronger...I only used a bit of strength to jump yet I got this far.'

Hugh tried to use one of the techniques he had come up with when he was in that unknown space.

"Flight"

"A technique I came up with by using mana to propel myself continuously making it seem like I'm flying."

This technique would later be recognized as one of the foundations of being a superhuman.

Hugh flew through the air at an immense speed as he reached civilization in only a couple of seconds.

"I'm back..."

He felt relieved as he looked down on the city that was built upon him and his team's hard work.

Hugh descended on the center of the city as a large amount of people gathered around him.

Reporters flooded the scene as they saw that Hugh had come back.

"Here at Sector 16, Area 8 the savior of humanity Hugh Grandfeil has been spotted descending from the sky!"

Hugh was being broadcasted throughout the whole world by holograms as he floated a few meters above the ground.

"Everyone! I have come back after defeating the last disaste-"

People cheered before Hugh could finish what he was about to say.

"Silence"

Hugh said with a calm voice yet the crowd suddenly became silent.

"I've defeated the last disaster though I have not cleared the monsters it had brought into this world, and I have another news to bring...I've gotten direct information from a deity."

Everyone that had heard Hugh's announcement was speechless, almost everyone on earth had given up on God and religion due to the disastrous events that took place.

Hugh proceeded to announce what the voice had said to him, though people had doubts at first after seeing Hugh's newfound abilities they quickly silenced themselves.

That was the prologue before the great war started, had the unknown voice not given that information in advance humanity wouldn't have been able to prepare for the upcoming war.

And to this day the true source of the voice hadn't been revealed yet...whether it was God, or something else it would never be known...at least not yet.
