Johto Region, Goldenrod City.
"Bang!"
A girl with short pink hair tied into two pigtails slammed her fist on the table, clearly frustrated.
"This is so dirty!"
"How can a Pokémon like Skarmory be this annoying!"
Whitney didn't seem to realize that her Attract + Rollout Miltank was a nightmare for rookie trainers.
Gritting her teeth, Whitney pulled out her phone and called Falkner, the inspector in Violet City.
"Falkner, was that account you just now? Why does the strategy feel so familiar?"
Spikes are a basic strategy in the Master League, and many trainers are skilled at using them.
For example, Koga of the Elite Four is known for his Toxic Spikes.
Brock from Pewter City has also showcased strategies involving Rock Tomb and Stealth Rock.
But this "Spikes + Whirlwind" Skarmory gave Whitney a strong sense of déjà vu.
Isn't this Falkner's Skarmory?!
"Playing games during work hours? I'm reporting you to the Pokémon Association!"
On the other end of the line, the good-natured Falkner chuckled awkwardly. "Calm down, Whitney. I think you might have the wrong person."
"Who else but you would use Skarmory and a Spikes strategy so well?"
"Huh? Maybe it's a Steel-type Gym Leader from another region. Or perhaps a master of the Spikes strategy… Think about it! I'm busy hunting down Team Rocket. When would I have time to play games?"
Whitney paused for a moment, as if realizing something. "Hmm…"
That player was from the Touran Region, wasn't it?
Ugh, that strategy was so familiar, and it was executed even smoother than Falkner's!
"You ran into a Spikes Team? Hahaha, of course you'd lose with your brain!" Falkner laughed heartily.
"Huh?" Whitney's grip on her phone tightened, a vein popping on her forehead.
"Uh, the signal's bad. Let's talk later."
Sensing danger, Falkner quickly hung up.
Whitney took a deep breath and opened the replay of the battle, carefully analyzing it.
"Hmm… My commands weren't the problem. It's just that his team composition was better."
Whitney scratched her head in frustration. "Ugh, why do people have to use such tryhard teams for training?"
If Whitney had the same team, she was confident she wouldn't necessarily lose to Natsume-sensei.
But… the opponent seemed to have mastered the essence of the Spikes Team, with a team composition perfectly suited for the Spikes strategy.
"This is just annoying!" Whitney muttered through gritted teeth. "What kind of master spends all day figuring out how to climb the ranks?"
In Pokémon: Battle, players usually choose Pokémon that match their team composition to train their preferred strategies.
Someone like Natsume-sensei, who switches teams for every strategy, is incredibly rare.
Unless you have an exceptional understanding of team building, it's impossible to have such a diverse roster.
"This guy… is he really a leader from the Touran Region?"
Whitney frowned, scrolling through Natsume-sensei's battle records—nothing but wins.
Some matches against Sun Teams even ended with a flawless 6:0 victory.
And the user of that Sun Team was none other than the pool-playing kid, Gold…
Whitney's eyes widened.
The image of that mischievous boy popped into her head, and Whitney nodded thoughtfully.
"If it's Gold… getting swept isn't that surprising, huh?"
Meanwhile, in the Pokémon Day Care on the outskirts of Goldenrod City, Gold sneezed.
"Ugh! No way, I've been sneezing so much lately!"
Gold scratched his head and lazily answered his phone. "Moshi moshi? Who's this?"
"It's me, your grandma!"
"Wrong number, bye!"
"It's me, Whitney from Goldenrod City!"
"Oh, you asking me out? Give me Miss Mary's LINE, and I might consider it!"
"Stop joking around! Do you know Natsume-sensei from the Touran Region? How strong is he?"
Natsume-sensei?
Gold rested his chin on his hand, picturing the ruthless group leader.
This guy… he's probably no joke.
After all, even I couldn't beat him…
"Whoa, Natsume-sensei is something else!"
Gold said with a serious tone.
"Even Red-senpai is one of his followers. Brock even said he's a top-tier breeder!"
"R-really?"
Whitney's voice softened.
If that's the case… it makes sense that his Spikes strategy is even better than Falkner's, right?
"You don't believe me? You can check out the group. It's full of top-tier masters."
Gold clicked his tongue. "If Natsume-sensei hadn't begged me to join, I wouldn't have even considered it!"
"Huh?" Whitney's eyes sparkled. "A… master group? Red-senpai is in it too?!"
"Yeah, pretty impressive, huh? I think so too."
Gold nodded to himself.
After a long silence, Whitney finally spoke in a barely audible whisper.
"Can you… add me… to the group…?"
"What was that? Speak up!"
"I said, can you add me to the group?!"
Gold rubbed his slightly dazed ears and lazily replied, "With your skills, you're still a bit lacking, aren't you?"
"Do you want me to come to the Day Care and settle this in person?"
"Fine…" Gold waved his hand. "100 signed photos of Miss Mary, and I'll add you to the group."
"Really?"
"Of course!"
"Alright, I'll go find Mary!"
…
Natsume, who had just finished streaming, glanced at his phone in surprise.
"Huh? A new member in the group?"
Whitney: "Ahhh!!"
Whitney: "It's Red-senpai! The real one!"
Whitney: "Can I add you on LINE, senpai? I've been a fan for so long!"
Yellow: "(○` 3′○)"
Lorelei: "Ara, how interesting~!"
Natsume scratched his head.
Well, Red's harem group is confirmed!
The Spikes Team stream had a decent response, and Whitney as a Gym Leader provided decent material.
If it's not enough, I can always edit in a few more matches with Gold later!
In just one afternoon, the system's BP points increased by over a thousand.
If exchanged for berries, the little ones' food expenses for next week are covered.
[Remaining BP Points: 2400]
Eevee had been lying on Natsume's lap, watching him play games all afternoon.
Yawning, Eevee lazily jumped down and went to play on the running wheel.
As the sun set and dusk deepened, Natsume, wearing an apron, prepared a large table of food, waiting for Haunter to come home.
But it wasn't until the food was almost cold that Haunter excitedly slipped through the door.
With a thud, it tossed a card onto the table.
Haunter floated over to the fridge, its hand phasing through the door to grab a soda.
"Haunter~~(?′?`?)"
Haunter looked blissful.
Natsume, looking puzzled, took off his apron and glanced at Haunter, then picked up the card from the table.
In an instant, his eye twitched.
