Chapter 30: Katsuro’s Move and the Hokage’s Decision

The Uchiha compound remained quiet, but the tension in the air was undeniable. Katsuro's words had reached more ears than expected, and his influence was growing. At the same time, the Hokage had finally reached a decision regarding Fugaku's request.

At noon, Fugaku received an urgent summons from the Hokage. This time, he brought both his sons with him. As they entered the Hokage's office, Sarutobi sat with several members of the village council.

"I have considered your request," the Hokage began, his voice even. "While I cannot undo the past, I agree that the Uchiha deserve a more active role in village affairs."

Shina raised an eyebrow. That's new.

Fugaku remained composed. "And what do you propose?"

The Hokage met his gaze. "I will arrange for Uchiha shinobi to be more integrated into village operations. Some will work alongside the ANBU. Others will be placed in key administrative positions. In time, this will rebuild trust."

Shina stole a glance at Itachi, who remained unreadable. The idea sounded promising, but he knew better than to trust words alone.

Fugaku nodded. "A step in the right direction."

Shina smirked. "We'll see how the clan reacts."

Unfortunately, not everyone would take this as a victory.

By nightfall, news of the Hokage's decision spread across the Uchiha compound. Some saw it as a positive step, but others, especially those loyal to Katsuro, saw it as an empty gesture.

"This changes nothing," Katsuro told his gathered followers. "The village will still treat us like outsiders. They offer us scraps and expect us to be satisfied."

One shinobi frowned. "But isn't this a chance to prove ourselves?"

Katsuro's gaze darkened. "And what if it's a trap? What if they are only trying to keep us under control?"

His words stirred uncertainty. It was clear that Katsuro was growing desperate. He had expected the Hokage to reject Fugaku's request—something that would have fueled his movement. Instead, the Hokage's decision left him in a difficult position.

But instead of backing down, Katsuro made his move.

"If Fugaku won't lead us properly… then perhaps it's time we choose a new leader."

The room fell silent. Then, slowly, nods of agreement followed.
