Exchange - Chapter 1

Dante steadily looked around to see if there were any traces of the two he'd left. Much to no avail, since he'd walked off from the estate while talking to Grant. He decided it would be best to possibly ask around to see if anyone could send in the right direction. Thinking it would be best to find someone who he'd deem reliable enough could possibly know the way back. He turned quickly to see the kind lady who'd served the two their baked treats.

"Uh—hello! I'm sure you remember me from before…"

The lady turned back to see who was speaking to her, and what she saw was a bumbling boy trying to figure out what to say. She smiled softly as she set her baskets down and looked at him with cheerful eyes.

"You're the boy who was with Grant, correct? He is a constant customer here."

"Y-yes! I was! I was wondering-"

"Don't worry I get it, my baked goods are better than most. That's how I get people like him to come around so often. And spend up his fil of course, hehe!"

"I see…but I was actually—"

"You want more treats? Alrighty then, just for you I'll give you a free donut! Since you're a sweetie after all."

"N-no it's fine really…"

She then suddenly pushed a wrapped doughnut into his chest before he could utter another word. The warmth of the freshly baked good sat on his chest as he then took it from her hands graciously. The sweet aroma coming from the doughnut festered as it hit Dante's seemingly sensitive nose. He quickly bit down on the doughnut before devouring it in one big bite.

The lady began to laugh as she watched his eyes brighten from the taste of the treat once more.

"I may have captured another constant customer! Ha ha!"

"MMmm…"

He continued to chew the doughnut in delight before a voice called out to him from a distance.

"There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you!"

Dante suddenly turned, as his mouth was currently stuffed with the free treat. He saw a familiar cloaked man running in his direction through the crowd . He squeezed and slipped through the cracks in the crowd before stopping right in front of Dante. He began to breathe heavily as it seemed he had run out of breath from the activity. Before he was finally able to catch his breath, he looked up at Dante and spoke.

"Where….did you….go….!?"

Dante's eyes lowered at the thought of what had transpired beforehand, considering the fact of the actions he took previously. His face saddened as Xavier grabbed his forearm, pulling him along into the crowd.
