Chapter 13: Victor

It was not appropriate for anyone else to hang around. The atmosphere was thick with almost palpable tension. Still shuddering, I heard Justin stirring, and then he emerged from his darkened shroud.

"I've got some affairs to attend to."

His voice was calm, but there was a hint of discomfort in his stance. He had no choice but to exit the way I had come in. Though he was almost nonchalant, I couldn't help but hope he'd change his mind and stay. Anything to avoid staying alone with this vindictive man.

Justin began to walk toward the elevator. As he passed me by, he narrowed his eyes, appearing to take note of how I was staring at him. I was pleading with my eyes for him to help me. Could he really leave me alone with this guy? He had to know what was going to happen once he was gone.

I guess he didn’t care, after all.
