Chapter 16: Duality

I felt his hands on me before I saw him. It was a vice grip, strong, menacing. I tried to resist but he only tightened his grip on my neck, making me choke. It took a minute to realize the burning sensation was the lack of air in my lungs.

“I was trying to be nice,” he told me, his eyes on fire, violently piercing through mine. “I was trying to do things the easy way. But you don’t want the easy way, do you?”

I couldn’t move or breathe, let alone respond. He continued. “I just helped you pick up Viktor’s dead pieces. We just committed one of the cardinal sins. Do you want to be a lawyer?” he asked, his teeth bared at her, his tone vicious. “Do you want a future?”
