To hear that the video evidence wasn't going to be enough was unsettling to say the least. I shook my head in disbelief, but I couldn't deny it. After taking a deep breath to settle my stomach, I spoke.
"You're right," I admitted, holding onto my jaw. "But are you saying we're dead in the water? Was all I risked just to get that evidence in vain?"
"No, I didn't say that." Justin shook his head. "That's not what I mean." I turned to look up at him as he continued, "But we only have one shot at this and without enough evidence, this could fall through the cracks. I can't stress that enough."
Shuddering, I touched my lips nervously.
"And we could be in grave danger if we don't do it right," he said.
Justin slid his hands onto my shoulders and squeezed once.
"Yes, I understand. Obviously, that's not what I want," I echoed. "I want to win and for this to be all behind us."
Touching his hand once, I slipped out of his grasp.
