Chapter 30: Locked

I reached out to try to grab the cake, but it was of no use. Time seemed to slow down as I watched the cake fly into the air above me before falling right on the front of my dress. The thick brown buttercream was smooth and incredibly sticky, so it seeped into the thin material of my gown immediately.

I let out a startled yelp, bringing even more attention to myself than the shattering plate on the floor ever could. Of course, all eyes landed on me, and I blushed scarlet at the sudden attention. I stood frozen, mortified by my current predicament.

The waitress who had bumped into me gasped, staring up at me in horror as if I was immediately going to shove her off to the executioner. “I am so sorry, Miss!” she cried. “Please, let me help you clean that off!” She pulled a rag out of her apron pocket and began to wipe off some of the cake.
