“Okay, okay,” Nathan conceded. “You have a point. She won’t open up to me. But what about your condition? Are you sure you’re okay?”
I nodded quickly. “You saw the doctor administer the shot himself. I feel fine. Tests can wait. Eve can’t. She could leave at any time, and then we would have no way of tracking her. I got lucky this time.”
I made a determined start, but Nathan obstructed my path again.
“What is it now?”
His eyes sparked with surprise, and he gave a yielding expression. “At least let me drive you there.” He made a verbal retreat. “My apologies. That sounded like a request. I will drive you there because I was entrusted with your well-being. Darren trusts me to look out for you, so that's what I’m going to do.”
I gestured to the door dramatically. “After you.”
