CANDYMAN

ORIGIN: United States.

The urban legend of The Candyman is often associated with the United States, with its roots in Chicago's public housing projects.

Alhough, now the legend has evolved into a broader piece of horror folklore.

The story centers around a vengeful spirit named Candyman, who is said to appear when his name is spoken five times in front of a mirror.

Once summoned, he brutally kills his victims with a hook that replaces his severed hand.

The origins of Candyman trace back to a man named Daniel Robitaille, a Black artist in the 1800s who fell in love with a white woman.

Their forbidden relationship led to an awfully painful punishment; Daniel was tortured by a mob, then his hand was cut off, and he was smeared with honey and left to be stung to death by bees.

His spirit is said to have been consumed by rage and vengeance, transforming him into the evil figure known as Candyman.

The legend was popularized by the 1992 film Candyman, but the folklore existed long before.
