ORIGIN: Northfield, Vermont.
The story dates back to the 1950s, when a teenager named Sam Harris was said to have vanished on the night before Halloween, known as "Picket Night."
According to the legend, Sam went out to cause mischief but never returned home.
Some believe that he encountered something deadly in the woods, while others say he became something far worse.
The most disturbing version of the tale said that Sam was possessed or transformed into a monstrous entity known as the Pigman.
It is described as a humanoid creature with the face of a pig, covered in blood and filth, and is also said to live in the remote woods and abandoned areas around Northfield.
Witnesses claim he is often seen near the Devil's Washbowl, a rugged, forested area.
Locals tell stories of hearing guttural pig-like grunts in the dead of night and seeing a shadow like figure with beady eyes watching from the trees.
Some say he preys on livestock, while others believe he stalks humans who wander too close.
