GASHADOKURO

ORIGIN: Japan

This monstrous spirit is described as a giant skeleton, towering high over trees and buildings, with hollow eye sockets that glow with a strange light.

The name "Gashadokuro" translates roughly to "starving skeleton," and its origins are as horrible as its appearance.

According to legend, the Gashadokuro is born from the accumulated bones of people who have died from starvation or in battle, especially those whose bodies were left unburied.

With their collective rage and suffering, these bones fuse together to form the enormous, vengeful spirit.

The Gashadokuro roams the countryside, especially during the dark hours of the night, seeking to pounce on lone travelers.

It is very quiet when approaching for its kill so the only warning the victim would get is a faint ringing in the ears when it's close and by then it is too late.

Once it catches a victim, it is said to crush them in its bony hands or bite off their head, drinking their blood to temporarily quench its never ending, ever growing hunger.

The Gashadokuro is nearly invincible, so traditional weapons are useless against it.

If you ever encounter a Gashadokuro, all you can do is run and hope to escape.
