ORIGIN: South Carolina
The urban legend of the Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp emerged from Bishopville, South Carolina, in the late 1980s.
It about a strange, reptilian humanoid (human looking) creature said to inhabit the murky waters and dense woods surrounding Scape Ore Swamp.
The legend gained widespread popularity and attention on June 29, 1988, when a local teenager named Christopher Davis reported a scary incident that happened to him.
According to Davis, he was driving home late at night when he got a flat tire near the swamp.
After fixing it, he heard rustling sounds from the dark woods.
Suddenly, a seven-foot-tall creature with scaly green skin, glowing red eyes, and three-fingered claws came out from within the shadows.
It lunged at his car, scratching the roof and attempted to break in while he (Davis) struggled before managing to speed away in fear.
His car bore deep scratch marks and damage, which fueled the locals with mass hysteria.
Other residents soon came forward with similar stories.
Livestock was found mutilated, and strange tracks with three clawed toes were seen near the swamp.
Some described the Lizard Man as fast, strong, and aggressive, capable of keeping pace with cars.
To this day, Scape Ore Swamp remains a hotspot for those wanting a glimpse of the reptilian beast.
