ORIGIN: American lumberjack folklore.
The Dungavenhooter is a peculiar and lesser-known creature originating from the logging camps of the northern United States.
It is part of a larger tradition of tall (made up) tales told by lumberjacks to pass the time and in a way explains the strange occurrences in the wilderness.
The Dungavenhooter is a large, reptilian beast with a long tail and a powerful body.
It has no mouth, which makes it all the more… weird or should I say unthought of, given its 'ferocious' reputation.
According to the legend, the Dungavenhooter is a predator that does not consume its victims in a traditional sense; That is, it does not eat through its mouth (since it doesn't have any in the first place).
Instead it holds down its prey and begins to slam and keep slamming into them with great force using its tail.
Once the unfortunate victim is stunned or killed, the Dungavenhooter releases a cloud of toxic, suffocating gas to finish the job.
The gas dissolves the body and the creature then absorbs its prey's essence or life force into its body.
Lumberjacks warned each other to be careful when walking into the woods alone, as the Dungavenhooter was believed to strike quickly and without warning.
