ORIGIN: Southern American and European traditions.
There is a belief that one can summon a demon at a remote crossroads, at midnight, to make a bargain.
The most common version of this legend say that a desperate person can sell their soul to the demon in exchange for a wealth, power, fame, or a unique talent.
The ritual involves bringing very specific offerings, such as a personal belonging or an animal sacrifice, and burying it at the intersection.
Once summoned, the demon appears in a human-like form, then the deal is sealed with a handshake and a blood pact is made.
Immediately, the person receives their wish but…
Will only live for seven or ten before the demon would return to collect their soul, and condemn them to eternal damnation.
One famous story linked to this legend is that of Robert Johnson, a blues musician who said he gained his wonderfully unique guitar skills after making a deal with the Crossroads Demon.
