A supposed truce

"I can't believe we did it. However, in all seriousness, Zoey, you must acknowledge that we are a fantastic collaboration." They conversed and laughed as they entered the building together, and David Miller broke into a beaming smile.

"We do, don't we?" A friendly smile spread across Zoey's face as she made her admission. She and David communicated well outside the office, surprising her. They were presenting a business plan to one of the most successful companies in London.

As they passed the reception area, David glimpsed Aria frowning at them. Although he knew he was responsible for her behavior, they could not continue working in this manner. Would he better understand how she was feeling about being in the same building as him? The fact that she was present at this hour of the night brought about a fortunate circumstance.

"Hold on." Zoey, fiddling with the pearls around her collar, glanced at David. After she gave him a nod, he moved towards the reception counter. Because Aria was so preoccupied with her thoughts, she was completely unaware of his approach. "Hi, Aria." He extended his greetings, but she did not respond. "What are you doing here at this hour?" It is about seven o'clock at night." In addition to saying that, he glanced at his watch momentarily.

"Waiting for my lift." As Aria stared at her phone, she mumbled something under her breath. A moment later, she returned her attention to her phone after swiftly looking up and pointing her pen toward Zoey.

David indicated his comprehension with a nod and then placed his hands into the pockets of his slacks. For what reason was it so difficult to apologize to her? "Is there a problem here?" Before he could stop himself, he asked the question.

When she realized he was still standing and conversing with her, she jerked her head in his direction and looked directly into his eyes. She then returned the frown that had appeared on her face. "No, sir." It was a sassy response.

"Okay." At this moment, remove that frown from your face and get back to work as soon as possible. He authoritatively gave a command.

Aria simply chuckled and set her phone aside after making her statement. "I am employed by Miss Miller, not by you, which is why I chose to remain here following your actions." As she finished her sentence, her voice trembled from nervousness.

As a result of her comments, his face became sterner. "Miss Wilson." His gaze confronted Aria, who looked up and stiffened. "If you value your job, you will do your work." He stated in a commanding manner. "I don't care about what happened between us in the past. We had sex, and it was great, but it is over now." He said it in a cold manner, his face as tough as a rock, and Aria fought back her tears. I don't believe that I am to blame for the fact that you have feelings, and it is also not my responsibility that I do not have the same feelings. Since I used you twice, I apologize. I am aware that I made a lot of mistakes." The expression on David's face softened as he spoke. "It is my sincere regret, but I am just human, and I cannot change the things that I have done or how I feel. April is my girlfriend, and I love her. I am sorry that things took this turn between us. I hope that you will forgive me in the future. For now, I want to ensure that we continue to have a productive working relationship for the sake of the company. Do you believe that you can do this?" It was a soft question.

As she brushed away her tears, Aria gave a slight nod. "Of course," she stated as she took a shaky breath and attempted to pick up her glasses. However, her hands were shaking, and she ended up dropping them on the floor. She then continued to describe her thoughts. In a state of nervousness, she knelt and sought them.

Seeing her in such a vulnerable state was intolerable for David. After quickly swallowing the lump in his throat, he made a beeline for the elevator to avoid her unexpected reappearance from behind her desk.

"Is everything okay?" Zoey inquired with apprehension as she watched his outward appearance crumble.

"Nothing to worry about—just go home and rest. You'll need this for your business trip to Ireland tomorrow." He said this with a sly smile on his face. David was a huge fan of business trips but could have been more excited about this particular trip. She was aware that work trips would bring him both pleasure and difficulties, such as sleeping around and stealing other people's girlfriends, but that his relationship with Aria was preventing him from doing so. He was either serious about settling down or profound about it. Although he had changed, Zoey knew that David Miller would never be the same person again.

"Yes, I am looking forward to it." Zoey smiled slightly as she spoke, and David nodded before pressing the button for the final floor of the elevator.

As the doors opened, he smiled at Zoey, his expression pitiful. "Goodnight, Zoey." It was then that he entered.

"Goodnight, David." That was what Zoey said as the doors shut. She sighed and proceeded to stroll to Aria's desk, where Aria had just recently rejoined the scene, holding her glasses in her hands. "Are you okay?" she questioned Aria, offering her a sad grin. Aria remained motionless, staring at the closed elevator.

Even though Zoey did not hear much of their chat, she concluded that they had resolved the issues. It was evident from David's expression after their conversation that they had reconciled. David Miller was not as evil as she had previously believed.

People believed that David was just as horrible as Olivia Miller, the cold, rigid, and ruthless chief executive, simply because he was her brother. However, David's nature was fragile and easily broken. When you took a closer look at him, it revealed a different story, despite his appearance and reputation as a womanizer. Despite his tendency to make ridiculous jokes and comments, he was genuinely fair and funny. He was a compassionate and caring individual, but he was also a lovely man who had his flaws.

"Yes," Aria uttered under her breath as she shook. "I'm OK." Zoey sighed in relief and nodded her head. If Aria were to reconsider her decision to go, it would be fantastic.
