Chapter 5: The Legendary Racing God

Emily Parker did not respond, her gaze faintly glancing over Adam Willow on the driver's seat.

Adam Willow's hands gripping the steering wheel tightened, palms sweating, feeling somewhat guilty, he raised his head to meet Emily's clear eyes.

He opened his mouth and said softly,

"Little Sophie's ankle was sprained and it's not good for her to drive. Just so happens my car is also being repaired, so I offered to give her a ride home after work. How about we go together?"

So quickly he's calling her Little Sophie, this does not seem like a mere patient-doctor relationship.

Emily Parker pursed her lips and stopped looking at Adam Willow.

Sophie Parker has several cars, given to her by the Parker Family for her eighteenth birthday and after getting into university.

As for Emily, she doesn't have a car; she usually takes the hospital shuttle to work.

Right after Adam finished speaking, Sophie Parker looked back at the rear seat, a bit embarrassed she stuck out her tongue and spoke rather loudly,

"Oh dear, Sister, look at my memory, I forgot that today I'm not driving my usual car. This sports car has been modified by Deity Owen, the back seat is too small, it can only fit cats and dogs, I'm afraid Sister you would be uncomfortable."

"Deity Owen? Little Sophie, your car was modified by Deity Owen?"

Adam Willow's attention immediately shifted to Sophie Parker, excitement in his voice barely concealed, his face even slightly red.

It's such an honor, he could actually drive a car modified by Deity Owen.

"Deity what now?"

Emily Parker was startled, then gave the car another look, confirming that she wasn't mistaken.

Who are you insulting, with such an ugly modification and so many issues, how could it have been done by Deity Owen?

"Sister, you probably don't know who Deity Owen is, right? No wonder, you don't even have a driver's license. Deity Owen is our country's greatest automobile engineer, the cars he modified have all won first place in world competitions."

Sophie Parker said, looking at Emily with a sense of pride, country bumpkin, you wouldn't know about it.

Adam Willow, standing to the side, pitied the bewildered Emily Parker standing outside the car.

Emily Parker had many virtues, she was good-looking, had a gentle and sensible personality, it's just that her education was somewhat lacking, and she was less knowledgeable, understandably since her birth mother was just a village woman.

Though they were biological sisters, she was just the Parker Family's adopted daughter; she never learned singing, dancing, or piano.

She seemed to never wear makeup, carrying only an eco-friendly bag when going out.

Aside from working, cooking, and dispensing medicine, Emily had no hobbies, unlike Sophie Parker, who understood everything whether it be cars, concerts, or various financial news.

Adam Willow had only met Sophie Parker twice, but he found they got along very well.

Little did he know it was all because Sophie Parker had researched his preferences in advance, from likes to a fondness for Owen's modified cars.

"This car..."

Emily gently nudged the car tire with her foot unwittingly.

"Sister, be careful, this car is expensive; with your salary, you couldn't afford to fix it."

Sophie Parker quickly stopped Emily.

"I'm scheduled for the morning shift tomorrow, I'm going to stay at the old house, I won't be coming back tonight."

Emily Parker stepped back a few steps, creating distance between herself and the car.

Sophie Parker sneered, the "old house" Emily mentioned was the little place her village mother had left for Emily, rumored to be just a few square meters, a tiny run-down abode.

When Emily Parker was first brought from the village, she carried nothing but a worn eco-friendly bag containing a nearly moldy property title and an outdated pager, along with an old laptop.

Mrs. Parker found those things dirty, too lazy to even look at them.

"Emily Parker does not like to drive; she doesn't understand these things."

Adam Willow was examining the car, his hands touching the steering wheel of the sports car.

Adam remembered when he first bought his car; he wanted to teach Emily how to drive and have her get a driving license. However, Emily never touched the car, saying she wouldn't drive that sort.

All men love cars, and a car modified by Owen represented the dream for countless men; Adam was itching to try out this car.

Emily watched the two drive away and said with an indifferent tone,

"Not bad for what they said, this car is indeed suited only for cats or dogs."

To say she didn't understand cars, huh~ Unbearable.

Emily looked up at the sky, it was overcast, another rain seemed imminent.

Wondering what it would feel like if the car tires suddenly burst halfway through a downpour.

Elsewhere, Carlos Qin, after a busy day, picked up his phone and was surprised to find a message from "Grandpa."

A photo, it was a blue lunchbox.

The lunchbox was open, containing a portion of spinach and preserved egg porridge and two small dishes; although both were simple home-cooked dishes, they looked appetizing in the photo.

There was also a message below the photo.

"Eat well."

Did grandpa go mooching for meals again?

The photo inexplicably made Carlos Qin feel hungry.

He took a mental note of the dishes; he hated porridge, but the photo taken by grandpa looked quite good, and he wanted to see if it was really as tasty as the ever-picky grandpa praised.

...

Emily Parker returned to an urban village.

She walked all the way to a building; hmm... this building in front of her eyes was the same one associated with the moldy property title left by Emily's mother.

The house on the property title was located in the urban village and could be considered old and broken, but was not small.

A small high-rise with more than ten floors, located in a bustling old district, covered thousands of square meters, housing over a hundred tenants.

"Sister Lan, you're here."

"Sister Lan!"

A few youngsters with dyed hair greeted Emily Parker respectfully.

Emily nodded and pressed the elevator button to reach the top floor.

She used her fingerprint to open a pitch-black door, revealing a suddenly expansive view.

The top floor of the building was a duplex, with both floors adding up to over 500 square meters.

After Emily's renovations, the first floor became a huge studio, housing various tools and materials she needed.

The second floor was a bedroom, and there was a 200-square meter rooftop garden that grew some rare medicinal herbs.

Upon entering, she changed her clothes, took out the pager, and saw several messages after a day of neglect.

"The Morrow Family in Capital wants a bulletproof limousine refurbished, quoting ten million."

"A big shot in Harbor City suffering from an undiagnosed illness issued a medical search order, price negotiable."

"Several entertainment companies sent singing invitations..."

Emily Parker didn't reply to any of the messages; she wasn't in the mood.

She turned off the pager and tossed it aside, only one thought on her mind, she couldn't keep this child.
