Chapter 3 Adam Willow... suddenly got dirty

The next morning, Emily Parker arrived at Capital People's Hospital, where she became a nurse after her graduation.

During the day, she helped out in the pharmacy, dispensing medicines. Her salary wasn't high, just a few thousand yuan, but the job was relaxing and left her with plenty of time for personal matters.

For example, as was customary, she brought lunch to Adam Willow in the emergency department.

Adam Willow was so busy with his studies and work that over the years, his stomach had grown sensitive and he couldn't handle greasy food.

After they started working together, Emily would cook for him every day and bring him lunch, a routine that had lasted for two years now.

Outside the emergency room, the door was closed.

Just as Emily was about to knock, she heard Sophie Parker's voice from inside?

"Doctor Willow, it hurts, please be gentle."

Her voice was coquettish, sounding both pained and excited.

Emily pushed the door open and was stunned by the scene before her.

Sophie's clothes were disheveled and her stockings had slipped down to her ankles, with Adam holding her waist with one hand and touching her leg with the other.

"You two?"

"Ah, sister, it's nothing. On Valentine's Day evening, I and Doctor Willow..." Sophie covered her mouth shyly and purposefully mumbled her words: "Anyway, Doctor Willow provoked me, said he would take responsibility for me, so I came to find him today, but I accidentally twisted my ankle..."

Oh, Valentine's Day.

Emily suddenly gave a small, sardonic smile.

So that was why Adam Willow stood her up on Valentine's Day, only to say afterward that he "had something to do." It turns out he met Sophie.

To this day, Emily still remembers overhearing a colleague ask Adam if he liked her, to which Adam had replied.

He didn't say directly whether he liked her or not, but merely stated: "I come from a poor family, and Emily is an illegitimate daughter; her family background is too complicated... If we were together, the future would be tough."

It was because of this statement that she always felt Adam liked her but refused to accept her because of his family background.

So she decided to wait, always waiting, hoping to wait until Adam's job settled down, then she could reveal her own family background to him and officially be together.

But what was the result? What had she waited for?

She had been stood up on Valentine's Day, and now she witnessed his intimacy with Sophie?

She and Sophie were sisters! Was Sophie's family background not complicated? Did Adam no longer care?

So it wasn't that Adam cared about her family background; clearly... he just didn't care about her.

For some reason, in an instant, Emily suddenly felt Adam was dirty, really, exceptionally dirty.

"Oh, excuse me." Emily's face was expressionless, holding the lunchbox, she turned to leave.

A familiar doctor at the door asked in puzzlement, "Nurse Parker, aren't you delivering lunch to Doctor Willow?"

Emily smiled, revealing her trademark dimples, "Today I didn't bring his, and I won't be delivering anymore."

"But you're still holding the lunchbox..."

"Oh, I'm taking it out to feed the dogs in the garden." Emily said with a smile, then turned and left.

"Emily!" A flicker of surprise crossed Adam's eyes. As he watched Emily walking away, he couldn't help but feel that her steps today seemed especially light, as if she had shed some heavy burden.

Feeling an inexplicable panic, he hurriedly let go of Sophie, wanting to chase after Emily to explain that he was merely looking at Sophie's sprained ankle when she lost her balance and fell into his arms.

Seeing this, Sophie grabbed his white coat, and whispered seductively into his ear.

"Doctor Willow, what about the responsibility you promised to take?"

Hearing Sophie's words, Adam's steps to chase Emily halted.

He turned back with a shade of guilt on his handsome face, "I'm sorry, I'll continue looking at your foot. Also, Miss Parker, your car was damaged by me, tell me how much money is needed, and I'll transfer it to you."

"Doctor Willow, I already filed an insurance claim for my car, no need for you to pay. If you really want to compensate me, why not recommend me as a volunteer at your hospital?"

Sophie smiled coquettishly, "I'm a junior now, studying psychology. I want to intern at a big hospital, and moreover, I want to be closer to Doctor Willow..."

Sophie Parker blinked.

She was charming and beautiful, with a luxury car to boot, clearly from a good family background.

Few men could resist such a girl, and Adam Willow was no exception. His face flushed considerably, the guilt he felt earlier about Emily Parker forgotten.

Well, no rush to soothe things over, Emily never gets mad at him anyway, it should be fine.

Outside the emergency room, Emily Parker hurried out, the sourness in her heart still spreading.

No one chased after her.

Emily couldn't help but give a bitter smile. What was she still hoping for? Who did she think she was to Adam Willow?

Her ten years of affection, what was it worth?

Emily walked to the hospital's central garden, intending to feed the meal she prepared for Adam to the little black mongrel raised by the security guard.

It was a black mongrel, just two months old, round and chubby, milk-sweet, to whom she often fed leftovers. Today was no different.

Opening the lunchbox automatically, she placed it on the bench, within it steaming sea cucumber with prawns, sweet and sour pork loin, stir-fried lilies with seasonal vegetables.

Emily looked up, but didn't see the little dog, and stood still in surprise before getting up to search for it.

After a round of fruitless searching, puzzled, she returned to find an old man sitting on the bench, eating her food!

"Food thief!" Emily leaped forward in one dash, grabbing the "thief" who was stealing her boxed lunch.

"Burp—"

An old man in a hospital gown was startled into a burp with half a piece of sweet and sour pork loin in his mouth, prawns gripped in both hands, unchewed, silently swallowed the pork loin in his mouth.

Emily was stunned for a moment, recognizing the clothes on the man – he was a patient from the inpatient ward.

"Grandpa, haven't you eaten?"

"Mm! Hospital food is swill, can't stomach it!"

The old man looked over eighty, but when it came to food, he seemed as aggrieved as a child, nearly in tears.

Emily couldn't help but laugh and cry.

"Well, if you don't mind, you can have this food..."

"Don't mind at all, not one bit."

The old man had been waiting for Emily to say this and quickly snatched the lunchbox, praising her cooking as he ate.

"Nurse, your cooking is really good, young girls like you are rarely so industrious."

Saying so, the old man sneakily glanced at Emily's hand, noticing it was bare without a ring; his heart suddenly blossomed with joy.

Hehe, the fortune-teller didn't lie to him, his granddaughter-in-law had truly dropped from the sky!

"Nurse, I like your food, how about this, you bring me meals and in exchange, I have a grandson who's quite old, always alone, should I introduce you?"

Emily smiled, "No need, Grandpa. If you like it, I'll bring you more tomorrow, but I'll pass on the grandson."

But the old man insisted, "Give me your mobile number."

Emily, with no other choice, gave him her WeChat contact, but she didn't take his offer for the grandson seriously.

Little did she know, the old man's "old grandson" was hurriedly on his way.

At the Carter Clan Group in the afternoon, Carlos's secretary told him that People's Hospital had called again, his grandfather was missing.

"This old man, must be secretly sneaking off to eat takeout again."

Carlos gave a tug at his tie, having been in meetings all morning, he was feeling irritable. Hearing that his grandfather was missing again, he didn't even stop for lunch and rushed over.

He was in such a hurry that as soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he ran into someone.

A scent mixed with disinfectant and the smell of fresh grass hit him; Carlos lowered his head and saw a fluffy head.

The other person rubbed their reddened nose and looked up, their eyes meeting his.

Carlos frowned, "Emily Parker? You again?"
