Not only did she come to my residence daily to see my child, but she also planned my daughter's birthday celebration annually.
She spent time with my daughter on Children's Day and joined in school activities for parents and kids.
On Mother's Day, she would take my daughter on a private outing and capture numerous pictures together to share on her social media accounts.
Whenever I inquired, her response was, "I lost my own child early and don't plan to have more kids in the future."
"We're like best friends. I just want to treat Briela as if she were my own."
Before I could respond, Bryan quickly chimed in to support her.
"Flora, Lauryn's tragic loss of her child is heartbreaking. Why not allow her to experience what it's like to attend a school meeting?"
Noticing their hopeful expressions, I gave a slight smile. "Alright, I'm occupied today."
My best friend beamed with contentment upon hearing my approval.
Briela applauded and expressed her joy.
After our morning meal, Lauryn eagerly took my daughter to school.
Bryan accompanied them, claiming he wanted to see them off.
I silently observed the trio leave happily without uttering a word.
They seemed to think I was particularly gullible and oblivious to any unusual circumstances.
Lauryn was becoming increasingly daring.
Previously, she would meet Bryan discreetly while I was at work.
Now, even when I was home, she'd find various pretexts to show up at our door.
"Flora, I've been learning to cook recently, so I'm here to showcase my culinary skills."
"Flora, I've just returned from a rural area and brought some local delicacies for you."
"Flora, my plumbing's broken. Could I stay at your place for a few days?"
And so forth...
Though I knew deep down that Lauryn's visits were to see her daughter and Bryan, I never refused her.
I always welcomed her warmly when she came over.
I also accommodated her requests one by one.
Bryan was quite pleased with this arrangement.
Whenever Lauryn visited, he couldn't help but smile.
Sometimes he would even flirt with her in my presence, sneakily sending suggestive messages.
Even Briela was growing closer to her.
He even bought her a pair of house slippers so she could drop by anytime.
This continued until Briela took her college entrance exams.
On the day the results were released, my best friend arrived at our home early.
We waited together for Briela's test scores.
Seeing his daughter's disappointingly low score, Bryan feigned anger. "How did you perform so poorly on the exam?"
Briela was unfazed. "Our family's wealthy, so why should I study hard? Mom can simply buy me a degree."
Bryan glanced at me subtly.
Noticing I didn't comment, he pressed on. "No matter how much your mother loves you, she can't allow this!"
"It's challenging for her to manage the company alone. You must put in effort. Otherwise, how will you help her in the future? How can she trust you to take over the business?"
At this point, Lauryn quickly interjected. "Flora is Briela's birth mother, how could she neglect her?"
Briela concurred. "Exactly, I'm Mommy's only child. With all her companies, how could she let me go hungry?"
Lauryn looked at her daughter with some admiration, then turned to me and said directly, "Flora, Briela's a good girl. You can't send her to a subpar university."
"What if she gets mistreated?"
"Why don't you let her work as a general manager or something similar in your company first? Let her assist you."
