At that moment, Rosie was bursting with anticipation, anxiously pacing the corridor and fidgeting with her hands.

Upon seeing I had delivered a boy, she rushed over, snatching the infant and clutching him tightly. Her eyes sparkled with delight, becoming misty from sheer excitement.

The nurse, stifling a laugh, joked, "What's your relation to this child? You seem more thrilled than the mother herself!"

Rosie appeared flustered but quickly tried to justify herself when she noticed my silence. "Daphne, I couldn't contain myself! Kian is just so cute, and I accidentally gave him a peck. You're not upset, are you?"

I offered a faint smile and replied calmly, "Not at all. My work often keeps me from family time. I'm thankful you're willing to help look after Kian."

Upon hearing this, both Rosie and Stephen exhaled in relief.

My son then approached me, his guileless eyes meeting mine as he inquired, "Mom, are you heading to the office today, or joining Dad and me at kindergarten?"

I gently stroked his head and asked, "What would Kian prefer Mommy to do?"

Without hesitation, he answered, "I want Mommy to go to work, and Aunt Rosie can take Daddy and me to kindergarten!"

As if worried Kian might say something inappropriate, Stephen swiftly picked him up and explained to me, "Darling, Kian just doesn't want to interfere with your work. He even told me recently not to bother you because you're so busy."

Rosie concurred, nodding. "Kian is such a thoughtful child. Only someone as exceptional as you, Daphne, could have such a well-behaved son."

Smiling, I told my son, "Very well, we'll do as Kian suggests."

Hearing this, Kian leaped with joy. He completely disregarded my presence, grabbing Rosie and Stephen's hands and pulling them outside.

Observing their cheerful little "family of three," I allowed myself a subtle smile, turned around, and returned to my study to resume my unfinished work.

Perhaps they assumed I was easily deceived, that I'd never detect anything amiss, so Rosie grew increasingly brazen.

Initially, she would meet Stephen secretly while I was at work. But now, even when I was home, she'd invent various reasons to visit.

"Daphne, I've been learning to cook lately. I wanted to prepare something tasty to show my appreciation for your help over the years."

"Daphne, I just returned from a rural area and brought some local delicacies for you."

"Daphne, I've left my job to start a business, but I'm lacking initial funds. Could you assist me?"

Although I knew in my heart that Rosie's visits were pretexts to see my son and Stephen, I never turned her away.

Whenever she came, I always greeted her cordially. I even agreed to all her requests for assistance.

Stephen appeared pleased with this arrangement. Whenever Rosie visited, his mouth would curve into an uncontrollable grin. At times, he'd even flirt with her openly before me, exchanging meaningful glances and secretive smiles.

Even my son grew increasingly fond of Rosie, going as far as to purchase her a pair of house slippers so she could drop by whenever she wished.

This routine continued until my son's college entrance exams.

On the day the results were announced, Rosie arrived at our home early in the morning to await the news with us.

When we saw my son's disappointingly low score, Stephen's brow furrowed in anger.

"How could you perform so poorly?" he scolded.

My son, however, remained unfazed.
