The study door burst open as Alpha Kade charged in, his anger evident. He gestured accusingly at Lila, his Beta, who remained calm despite his fierce look.

"Didn't I tell you to keep away from my pack? How dare you come here, especially at this time!" His words echoed, tinged with the snarl of his barely controlled wolf.

Lila grinned, moving closer without fear. "Come on, Alpha. What's wrong with a quick nighttime visit? Especially when it's for you."

Her words were suggestive, her daring surprising. She reached out and pulled at the loose knot on his robe, her eyes gleaming.

"The woods are too crowded at night, and you didn't seem to have fun earlier. So I thought, why not bring the excitement inside?"

Kade paused momentarily, shock crossing his face. He moved back, his voice cutting the air. "Are you crazy? This is my pack house! My mate is just across the hall!"

Lila's smile grew, revealing her sharp teeth. "I know. She's sound asleep, though, isn't she? All quiet. Besides, isn't it more... exciting this way?"

Kade's growl deepened, but before he could react, Lila dropped her cloak, showing a tight dress that sparkled like stars, meant to attract.

Suddenly, she closed the gap between them and pressed her lips against his. For a moment, his body betrayed him, and he responded before coming to his senses and pushing her away.

From across the hall, I observed the scene through a small opening in the door, my heart racing. Every instinct urged me to rush in, to confront them, but my body wouldn't move, frozen by the sight of my mate with another.

Nausea rose as I stumbled back, unable to watch anymore. My eyes watered, and I ran to the bathroom, vomiting as the image of their kiss replayed in my mind.

How could he? The man the Moon Goddess had chosen for me, my destined mate, breaking our sacred bond. And with her, of all people—Lila, his Beta, known for her cunning ways.

I went back to my room, falling onto the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. The connection between us burned, hot and painful, as if punishing me for his betrayal.

Two hours later, I heard the front door open quietly as Lila left. Kade's voice followed, deep and authoritative, calling for someone to drive her.

When he finally came back to the room, the smell of jasmine and something sweet clung to him. My wolf stirred, furious, and I had to bite my lip to keep her from emerging.

Kade went to the bathroom without a word, and the sound of water running filled the quiet. When he came out, I turned away from him, pretending to sleep.

"You were out late," I said coldly, my voice hiding the turmoil inside me.

Kade paused, his shadow over me. "Pack business," he said roughly, the lie as obvious as the distance I had tried to put between us.

I moved further away, creating a gap in the bed that matched the one growing in my heart. The conflict inside me was clear. My instincts wanted revenge for the mate bond he'd broken, yet part of me still tied to him hurt, wanting an explanation I knew wouldn't come.

As he finally got into bed, his back to mine, I whispered into the dark, heard only by myself, "You think you're hiding this from me, but I know everything."

That night, under the fading moonlight, I promised myself I would find out the truth behind his betrayal—and make both of them sorry for underestimating me.
