For a brief moment, I thought his gesture was sincere, a representation of our connection. However, when I spotted her the following day, wearing a more lavish pendant made of black diamonds—a symbol of dedication—I realized the truth.
I performed my duties as a Luna should. I welcomed the pack members, wore a pretend smile, and concealed the turmoil within. However, their audacity grew unchecked. Startled, Lila snapped her gaze upward, her complexion ashen. "Kade?" she uttered in disbelief.


She recoiled, her weeping intensifying. "It was all because of my feelings for you," she cried out, "I'm in love with you!"


"Affection?" I growled, my tone dropping dangerously low. "True affection doesn't control others. It doesn't undermine or destroy. And it certainly doesn't turn its back on those it claims to care for."
