Pretty flowers adorning the aisle, bright lights from sunshine flooding into the room with tons of happy faces wishing me a happy married life. The air is filled with summer as the grass is green. It's so warm and so lovely.
I look to my left to see the handsome yet caring man that I married. The one who would hold my hand as we walked hand in hand to build a life and a family together, bringing our dreams to reality. Beautiful, isn't it?
If only that was my wedding.
The sky outside was overcast and threatening to rain cats and dogs. Thank goodness the castle's chapel was warm even though it was huge and bare.
There were no decorations, no flowers, no one in the hall save for me, the priest, three elite servants and the butler who served as witness, and the Dark Lord himself whom I shall be marrying.
Candles were used to brighten the place up so we could actually see each other's faces. The only one's excited were the three elite servants. The butler held his expressionless gaze and the priest looked like he just wanted to get this over with.
I don't know if this was pre-planned. Else how were they able to come up with a perfect wedding dress for me on such short notice. It was pretty simple and nothing as grand as the dress I wore to the Ball last night. But it was like one of the dresses I imagined that I would wear. Simple yet elegant and beautiful.
There I stood in a silver dress, clutching a bouquet of dull flowers staring at the Dark Lord who was equally simply dressed in a dress shirt and pants.
The procession started and we both said our vows. Not long after, we were legally married. How lovely.
The king threw an after party for the wedding and the invited guests from yesterday attended. It was held in the ballroom too and the servants had to scurry around changing the ball decorations to wedding decorations.
There was music, food and guests. My groom however was no where to be found.
"Congratulations, Miss Frieda." I heard a voice from behind me. It was Mr Conrad, one of the witnesses to the wedding. I managed him a smile. It would be awfully weird if the newly wedded wife to the king was moody on the day of her nuptials.
"Oh, my mistake. You're no longer a 'Miss'.
It was just like yesterday that I accompanied you a single lady." He touched his chest dramatically.
Internally, I scoffed. "It was yesterday actually." I reminded him.
He could have passed for a pretty decent actor. He almost fooled me with his surprised look. "Oh really. And now you're married. I wish you a happy married life, Milady."
I nodded in response. "Thank you, Mr Conrad."
He smiled his welcome and stood beside me as other guests came to congratulate me.
"Where is his Majesty?" I asked Mr Conrad when another batch of guests had left.
Mr Conrad kept a straight face as he nodded to some people in the distance. "The king has some urgent matters to attend to."
Mr brown lifted incredulously. "Even on his wedding day?"
Mr Conrad shrugged without looking at me. "That's the life of royalty. The kingdom comes first before anything else."
Before I could respond to that, I saw the familiar figure of Lord Alexis Barkley walking towards us with a stunning young lady on his arm.
They both offered a bow to us and we bowed slightly back.
"Congratulations on your wedding, Miss Physician. I know you'll stand by our king and bring this kingdom to prosperity."
Lord Alexis didn't smile the usual courteous smile. Rather, it seemed to me that his smile meant so much more.
"Thank you, Lord Alexis."
I looked from the Lord of the ports to the lady by his side as I spoke. She was not the lady he had danced with last night. Since he was the second witness at the wedding, when did he have time to woo another lady in such a short time?
Alexis smiled and turned his head to his fellow. "So good of you to accompany the King's bride on his absence, Victor. I would have loved to do it, but I haven't gotten the opportunity."
"Or you're scared that the king would chop off your limbs and send them as a parcel to his enemies." A deeper voice behind Lord Alexis said.
We all looked up at the man who had spoken. He had been the host of the Ball yesterday and also the third witness to the wedding.
"Of course he would be here." Alexis muttered to himself looking displeased.
"Deal with it Little one."
I smothered a laugh as the slightly older man called Lord Alexis, Little one. I looked at the three men and realized that Alexis was really the youngest of them all.
"Welcome to the royal family, Frieda Evans. May your reign as Queen of Kerva be great and prosperous." The older man said with a deep bow. He stood up and kept his deep blue eyes on mine so much I found it hard to look away, I was internally squirming.
The aura of this man exuded raw strength.
"T-thank you." I answered.
Mr Conrad looked amused at my reaction. He cleared his throat and spoke.
"You two must not have been formally introduced." To me he said. "This is Lord Benjamin Hayden. The Lord of all the armed forces of Kerva."
Lord Benjamin gave a slight bow. I looked at this man called Benjamin Hayden. With the muscles straining through his shirt and his tanned skin, he was the evidence of combat training under the sunshine. He was the complete opposite of the Dark Lord who looked like he had never seen sunlight.
We stood in a semicircle and observed each other.
"It feels like old times, that we all can stand together like this. I feel nostalgic." Mr Conrad broke the silence wearing a distant smile.
"Well, you all better enjoy my presence while you can still see me. I'm returning to the ports tomorrow." Lord Alexis announced smugly.
Lord Benjamin smacked his head upside. "And I'd better spank you as much as I can so I can get rid of your bad behavior."
I let out a little laugh at their exchange. The three men beside me seemed very much like siblings. Lord Benjamin was the responsible elder brother, Mr Conrad was the charming middle child and Lord Alexis was the mischievous youngest.
"Oh, but you aren't going back to the port. The king asks that we operate from the castle now." Mr Conrad said.
The other two men looked dismayed. "What?" They chorused.
"Because there is a queen now. We'll need to be here, to show her how to rule the kingdom."
