Chapter 45: A Brother's Burden

The torches in Evelyn's tent was dancing, casting a very long shadows against the richly decorated walls. The scent of dried herbs and burning incense filled the area, it was really strong and suffocating.

Soren was there in the center of the dimly lit room, his fists were held together at his sides.

His mother sat opposite from him, covered in her usual elegance her dark silk robes flowing like liquid night. 

Her pale hands rested delicately on the table before her, but Soren knew better than to mistake her composure for fragility.

Evelyn Armand was really dangerous. And tonight, he had actually come for the truth and nothing else.

"Enough games, Mother. I want you to tell me the truth. All of it." His voice was very sharp, edged with the weight of everything he had buried for far too long.

Evelyn sighed, lifting her eyes to him. Her expression was unreadable, her violet eyes gleaming in the low light.
