Chapter 25: The Calm Before the Storm

Aurora stood by the window of the cabin, her gaze fixed on the dense forest beyond. The sunlight streamed through the trees, dappling the ground with patches of light and shadow. For a moment, she allowed herself to believe that they were safe here, that the world outside couldn't touch them.

But the illusion didn't last.

Behind her, Logan moved around the room with quiet efficiency, packing gear and loading weapons. The tension between them had shifted since their confrontation the day before. His possessiveness lingered in every glance, every word, but there was something else now, an unspoken understanding.

"Do you ever stop?" Aurora asked, turning to face him.

Logan glanced up from the rifle he was checking, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "Not when there's work to do."

Aurora leaned against the wall, crossing her arms. "You should rest. You barely slept last night."
